actually i guess he can afford it...i think its great....more music out there, open up his music for remixers!..and re-edits...i think its a fantastic idea.

not a NIN fan to be honset....cant say that i dont like them cause i havent really listend to much of their stuff...jay you should make me a list of vital NIN tracks to DL cause i know they are basically to you what the beatles are to me..

Hey John, here's some stuff to get you going:

Head Like A Hole - their first major hit from their first album. Basically everything that is fantastic about Reznor. Crazy techno synths, and a chorus for moshing and yelling. Very fun stuff.

Gave Up - Another one for flailing around and screaming at the top of your lungs.

March Of The Pigs - best if you can find a live version (there's a well-produced one on their album And All That Could Have Been), the recorded one cuts out just before the best part.

The Downward Spiral - just grab the whole album. Closer is probably the biggest song they've put out, March of The Pigs is awesome (previously mentioned), Piggy and A Warm Place are also highlights, and Hurt is utterly moving, though from what I hear Reznor refuses to perform it anymore since Cash's cover came out (basically he says it's not his song anymore).

Only - After a number of years of Reznor putting the NIN project on a shelf, he puts out With Teeth, and everybody complains because of the poppiness of the first single (The Hand That Feeds). Only was the second single off this album and if you ask me is one of the strongest of Reznor's career. Has also been remixed to death

Also, check out the recent release Ghosts. Definitely not standard NIN fare, but very cool atmospheric and experimental music. Very good background music.

As much as I really dont like NIN, ya gotta give it to Trent.
putting his music out for free. it's his own label right?
he gets his money by putting out insane shows.

Never seen any, but soon to just check it out.

damn Pemberton festival for being the only fucking date for the NIN show here. SOOOOOOO lame as I can't afford that much money to see them (the only name on the bill that I would actually want to see)

Hey john as someone who has never heard NIN before a few months ago I have to say that "Year Zero" is by far my fav album. Its such an amazing concept. Its weird getting into a band thats been so huge for so long and the only tune you've heard of them is from Rock Band 360.
I also like his vocals way more in the later releases. I was told that Fragile is a good album(think thats the name)

The Fragile, yeah... that album is interesting... It's what I'd equate to The Brown Album for Primus... a bit of a departure from what you'd normally hear from them, little that's really pop-culture accessible in it but probably one of the more intelligently designed albums.

Year Zero was cool but still won't outdo Broken or The Downward Spiral for me.
