Anybody using the latest ubuntu yet? reports back from the class? It'd be kinda coo if my ati x1250 tv-out could start working again...

still paranoid, but it'd be neat to try out Firefox 3. Also I've been hearing good things about them getting the 3d shaz going on it.

I usually say three months but buckle in two. Two's coming up in a couple days. Sadly still no amarok 2, but kinda think if FIrefox 3 is gonna run smoothly it'd be in this environment. Also keen on new Gnome.

Please someone be nerdier than me and already have tried this out.

Gibbon hurt my vid card. Kinda scared of losing something else. Kinda hoping to get vid card working well again. Faster. Stronger. Better than it was before.

so far no major issues. Haven't yet tried out restricted drivers... debating if I should bother or if I should see if the OSS ones are any better...

how does it work for ati?

pretty sure i had to use restricted drivers for my nvidia before I could jack up all the visual effects.

i mean, what's ubuntu if you can't write with fire on the screen whenever you want?

find out soon enough. Thing is, there are two paths I can take:
radeon - the AMD-sponsored open source driver
fglrx - the ATI proprietary driver, derived from the open source one.

I'm downloading and installing security updates (including what will be a kernel reboot) at the moment. then I can start installing packages I know and love and start working on drivers.

Anyways, Compiz is up and running, so at least one thing works on this forsaken card.

Bad news: the w64codecs package is teh sux0r and mad incomplete for this release. Which means they expect me to use VLC, which for some reason, even though I'm all up in this accelerated driver steez, they still can't keep from being choppy.

Okay, ati proprietary drivers for linux are still teh suck.

Open source driver doesn't chunk up video so it wins for now.

Bed now, perhaps figure out if tv-out will work tomorrow.
