opening up blocked ports

So i'm using bitcomet and i'm trying to dload something but it's going stupidly slow.
On the bottom right it shows blocked 24.X

How do I open that up? I cant find it in my router, is there some sort of other torrent program i can use?
My firewall is always running the same i've always had it.

you need to open the ports on your software firewall and set up port forwarding on your router.

what router?

you should also be able to do a NAT test from your torrent client, but i'm not familiar with bitcomet.

Basically you need to port map your router as well as make sure your firewall isn't blocking the ports.

I'm unsure, but what I do know. the software is very limited on what you can do, I should pick up a linksys tonight.

The weird thing is, I downloaded something a few weeks ago and was blazing fast.

When looking for a wireless router, what should I go for?
I'm thinking linksys but unsure as what I should get.

I know my router at home is a pain in the ass to work with but its so freakin reliable.

find out what the model of your router is and post it before you make any marty-style decisions.

Also what kind of firewall would be helpful too.

linksys is pretty solid. if you get the linksys WRT54G you can update it with hacked firmware if you're interested. it'll let you do things like get a terminal session on the router, set up vpn, throttle bandwidth, etc.

Interesting story, actually, we were using one of those as the backbone of our house network a little while back, and for some reason the connection was ass-slow.

So then the landlord threw in his own homebrew linux box as the main router and then just hooked up the linksys inside the network for wifi, all of a sudden all the connections - including the wifi - started running super-fast. No clue why but I guess if you're planning on running an intricate wired network i'd recommend using a straight-up wired firewall and use the wifi router on the inside....

THE BEST THING TO DO WOULD BE MAKING SURE THE ROUTER YOU PICK UP HAS uPnP, AND THEN USE A uPnP AWARE CLIENT LIKE UTORRENT (WHY ARE YOU USING BITCOMET). IT WILL SET UP THE PORT FORWARDING FOR YOU AUTOMAGICALLY l

I was using bitcomet because I liked the features of it, being able to select the files.

marty, don't take this the wrong way... but it sounds like you want to get into IT stuff, so why would you want to take the easy route? try learning it.

To tell you the truth. The router i have doesnt have what you guys are asking.
the router setup is extremely basic. Really, it's setting up computers and that's it.
I've even tried to contact their support about the situation (it's happened before but fixed itself)
and they couldnt help me.

Can't say I've ever seen a model of router that doesn't do port forwarding. It's one of the most basic functions.
