i think people wouldn't have a problem with rogers if their plans were closer to O2's there in UK. maximum term is only 1.5 years, you get the phone at the same price in canadian dollars. the price plans are priced similarly to rogers but include more minutes, more texts and it includes UNLIMITED DATA and WIFI hotspots. on top of that, i'm sure caller ID is already included as its not common to have to pay for this feature, $7 here in canada, over in europe.

yes there isn't unlimited evening and weekends but rogers offer that after 9pm. if you opt for their higher plans, they just outright give you the bloody phone for free!

also factor in that the minimum wage there in CAD is higher than it is here.

Um, I understand everything crystal clear. I was commenting more on your post about the maximum wireless term in UK being 1.5 years - again that is due to the fact that the market is extremely different on that side of the pond.

AppleInsider | Apple allegedly sanctioning Rogers for iPhone rates

After raising the ire of its customers with what are believed to be overly expensive iPhone 3G plans, Canadian provider Rogers Wireless is allegedly being punished by Apple with fewer shipments.

Blogger Daniel Smith claims multiple sources, including a senior Rogers representative, claim that Apple has diverted a significant amount of its initial iPhone 3G Canadian deliveries to Europe in retribution for the carrier's steep rate plans, which at similar prices offer a third fewer minutes and limited data compared to AT&T.

Stores may be getting just 10 to 20 iPhones each and are being told to "exercise caution" not to promise ample stock on launch day, according to the rumors.

At the same time, Rogers is also claimed to be promptly firing the part-time staff that had been hired to handle an expected deluge of customers at some stores.

With the story breaking on the weekend, neither Apple nor Rogers officials have commented on the allegations. However, the provider in recent days has faced a steadily mounting backlash against its planned rates with approximately 42,000 would-be iPhone buyers signing a highly-publicized petition for lower rates that they plan to deliver to Rogers in person.

Rogers itself has already made an about-face regarding some of its plans. A statement issued to the press clarified that customers will now be able to pick and choose from separate voice and data plans as well as to order extras such as caller ID a la carte rather than as part of mandatory $15 and $20 value packs.

A separate statement from Rogers has also alluded to "tweaking" data plan sizes, although it stops short of offering the unlimited data demanded by some of the company's critics.

While readers should take caution in accepting the rumor at face value, at least one other carrier has been forced to loosen its Internet access restrictions after facing similar criticism: TeliaSonera has been pushed into extending its Swedish iPhone plans with an unlimited data option after previously giving even its highest-end iPhone plan just 1GB of data per month.

The idea of an iphone or smartphone scares me. When I am out with friends, or walking through the park the last thing in the world I want is an email from work. If there is an emergency they have my cell phone number, and even that is almost too much.

Also, if you have a blackberry or iphone for casual use, it seems like a waste of money. Are you that addicted to the internet?

but seriously for non-BUSINESS MAN THINGS i find the ability to IM my friends on the go with berry messenger invaluable. like, i would have a hard time moving off a bb platform and going back to txt messages.

also standing in a store, deciding between 3 items, doing a quick web search to see which one is best, etc.

also the quick sending and receiving of pictures.

With less than a week to go before the launch of the iPhone 3G, we thought we'd be able to compile a list of iPhone prices for the 20 countries where the new version or Apple's phone will be making its debut on the 11th. But surprisingly, six operators still haven't announced any pricing. Maybe that's good decision-making on their part, because in a good number of cases, the pricing of the phone and especially the plans were disappointing, often translating in significantly more than the $199/$299 indicated by Steve Jobs in his WWDC keynote.

The pricing diversity around the world—or even within Europe—is staggering: you can pay anywhere from $94 to $377 for an 8GB iPhone 3G and between $24 and $128 for plans that may only have a (few) hundred MB worth of data or are "unlimited." Denmark isn't as bad as it looks, because the minimum contract is only six months and prices drop by a third if you stay after that. The Netherlands is pretty good, especially considering that you can have your iPhone unlocked for free after 12 months.

Uh, you can't give away stuff that lucrative and run as a business for very long. That is a large part of WHY they got bought out. Who wants to invest in a company that probably wasn't making as good money out of their customers as others were?

besides, their coverage really really sucked, even for GSM :P
