Heading down to Seattle?

Just wondering do you guys know if we need a passport to cross the boarder to go to Bellingham/Seattle? Or can just a birth certificate be good enough?

Proof of citizenship should be good. Birth Cert + Photo ID would be your best bet.

I think (but am not certain) that passports are still only required for international air travel.

Last time I crossed the border was last summer though.

^ That is true I'm pretty sure. February or January 09 is when the passport issue will kick in for any travelling to the states.

I deal with this for a living.

Currently you can cross the border into the US by car (ie by land) with photo ID and your birth certificate, if you are a Canadian citizen.

(If you are entering the US by air or water, you need a passport)

just international air travel. I've been able to drive down to Seattle and take a plane from Sea-Tac to somewhere else in the states without a passport.

you don't even need ID to travel anywhere. you just need to be able to talk your way past the guards.
