Remember getting "Snow Days" at school, where it has to shut down because of inclement conditions?

I've got a Rock Day from work!

We were supposed to have a 7am call time in Brittania Beach, this morning. Had my alarm set for 5:25. Got 2 calls @ 4:30.

Seems there's been a big rockslide over the 99 around the Porteau Cove area. The route is impassable, and may be so for more than a day till the engineers can secure the hillside, and clear the debris.

We can't go back to the studio to shoot anything else, because all the trucks traveled up there, last night, so we can't even access any of our gear.

Woo-HOOOOO!

Day off!

Perfect timing, too, because it gives me the chance to catch up on some paper work, bills and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

Now just imagine what it would be like if you were stuck on the OTHER side of rock fall.

Realistically there are three ways to get around it and it has been driven on before.

1) There is a gated BC Hydro access road that is located at the NORTH end or top of the hill if heading to Whistler on the east side of the HWY 99, it runs along the transmission towers and ends up at Grouse Mountain Skyride lot. (last drivin on on November 2007 for a film we shot in that area) Make sure you fill up and have an extra filled gas can.

2) Take the Harrison West Fire Service Access road just east of Mount Currie down towards the Sasquatch Inn in Harrison Mills off HWY 7. Make sure you fill up and have an extra filled gas can.

3) Or just continue along HWY 99 up to Lillooett then down south to Boston Bar back towards Hope.

yea mang the rocks there are fuckin huge! i think 5 days is a minimum. then again im no resident expert in giant fucking boulder removal.

I think it'll be more than 5 days.

It's not just the size of the rocks that have come down, it's the sheer slope that has been made even steeper by the break-off.. in order to review how safe the area is, people will have to get up there, and possibly blast off more rock. Making those operations safe for workers and engineers will take a ton of time.
