It was a sink hole that was emitting a shit load of poisonous gas into the the atmosphere. They decided to light it on fire to burn it off, not realizing how much gas was actually there. So it has burned for 35 years with no end in sight.

Since I've moved to the US, I have learned the art of deciphering really crappy English.

that's nothing

there are coal seam fires that burn for centuries. in fact, there's a town in pennsylvania thats been completely abandoned after a 45 year coal seam fire has basically gutted it

Yes, agreed. It's large, but car's in general are worse. So if we eliminate as much as we can, we're helping, and not adding to the harm. This type of attitude you have is what's wrong with the world.
