Any new-user-friendly books you'd recommend? I am thinking about getting a camera in the New Year and would like learn about the basics before doing so.

Also, any recommendations for camera stores in Vancouver with well educated employees that can help with the purchase?

I've found the info and forums on dpreview.com very helpful. Also checking out peoples blogs will uncover a load of info on their experiences and how they do things. Somewhere like this, How to Make Great Photos

rad! i picked one up when i was up north.

best thing i found was read the manual from cover to cover and then just walk around town experimenting with every little setting.

also it helps to talk with someone who's all-star with a camera for those tips and tricks that aren't written down.

an almost unlimited assortment of available dslr lens.
big image sensor = depth of field.
an excellent dp (director of photography).
and last but not least, the guy's a pro.
the equipment is relatively affordable now, just add talent :)

shoots at 1080p .... body go's for about 3000 dollars. A guy at work just picked one up. its absolutely amazing.

lol the mark II is a big investment for someone just starting out with slrs. and it's so nice I want to try one out in a store but they are all soldold preorder and backordered at Canon.
