where to buy good/sturdy/affordable table for turntables?

to all you dj's out there, any ideas?

must be sturdy enough to handle scratching. im pretty light-handed and most ikea table tops will still wobble

built my own... use plywood, at least 3/4" thick.. went to Home Depot, started with a 4' x 8' piece .. they'll cut out whatever measurements you need.. Total cost for me was $30. ... I even managed to make a small side table with the extra pieces... :)

made mine 6' x 2', with a 6' x 1' shelf a foot above for laptop, MIDI keys & CD books .. I designed it so the opposite side houses my tv between the table legs and speakers on opposing sides of those legs (saves me a lot of space - I live in a bachelor)... so the speakers also serve as support ... but I also have monitors on each side too. (when I find my camera cables, I'll upload a pic to display).

In general I find this true of all the best tables I've played on. Either self- or custom-built.

sturdy and has room for records =). unfortunately the table isn't too deep, so battle style requires some work.

You would definitely want to add brackets to this though. It's not very sturdy.

Yes it is. I v got my tables, speakers on it and its full of records. its solid. also you can buy wheels that raise it up a bit and make it way easier to move. a great buy considering the cost of other stands built specifically for turntables.

^would have to agree with that statement. up against a wall with some weight on it and it's been fine for me.

but hey, brackets can't hurt

I have an ikea ingo - it works great and its CHEAP. $40 new at ikea... you could probably find one cheaper on craigslist. It's super sturdy and holds up to scratching no problem. The problem with the expedit other than the fact that its expensive is it is not the right dimensions for scratching. I actually measured it and your turntables wont fit battle style on there.

Found mine for $25 on craigslist :)

Iv got mine battle style. They fit but do over hang by about half an inch on each side. not perfect but does not affect scratching or play.

I got one of these at Canadian tire awhile back on sale for $30
Not bad..it's stable and you can adjust the height and change the feet..
the only thing is that there's not too much space you can put extra stuff on, i had to buy an extra table for my laptop..but it perfectly fits my 2 techs, mixer and two of my cdjs

a DJ friend of mine was saying that expedit bookcase from Ikea (I know you said no ikea and all but this is a lot sturdier) on its side is exactly long enough to fit turntables and a mixer, plus the shelfs below are handy for storage.

the ikea expedit bookcases do make a sweet DJ table... ive always wanted to start making one, but just got too lazy

You dont have to make a huge project out of it..
you can always get that book case and just add adjustable legs underneath it if it's too short..

I have a drafting table made of solid wood. Its made out of solid wood, about 1.5 ich thick. Its massive (width and length), slanted, and sturdy. I actually believe it might be from Ikea, but its like 20 years old, so I dont know if they even make them anymore.
