Best Mexican/ Latino food in Vancouver?

I am looking for recommendations on the best in vancouver. Anywhere really, but DT and Kits/West 4th would work best. I'm looking for good food, good margaritas, fun environment.

don guacamole is actaully quite good despite the dumb name - it's on 1333 Robson Street

One of my mexican friends told me about this tiny little cafe/taqueria on Fraser and like 50-something which is supposed to be uber-authentic but I've never been.

from my experience, the mexican food in vancouver sucks ass for the most part. most of it is tex-mex...

I've always liked Los Margaritas (4th and Maple). Great civeche!

I've only been once, but I liked El Patio (Smythe and Hamilton, I think), but, I can't recall if it was Mexicano or Spanish.

Speaking of Spanish, if you're into sharing a whack of great pinchos, La Bodega is awesome (Howe and Drake)!

that's more of the "texmex" i was talking about. Hard to find a real authentic place in town...

I like la casita a lot and ponchos on denman is pretty good (small, family run place)

you should try out a few of the salvidorian places in town. Rinconcito on commercial (around 4th or so) has amazing pupusas (almost as good as my friend's grandma makes..almost)

Don Guacamole is good. I second that.

Ponchos on Denman and Haro is good too. More traditional mexican stuff and a really good atmosphere. it's not the newest place around, but quality.

if you want authentic latin food, then you gotta go for the whole experience. laid back and slow is the way of life, you just gotta deal if you're going to get the good food :P

Another vote for La Casita. I go to Mexico for the food...a lot...and in between I get my fix from La Casita.

la casita however for those who prefer California style Mexican food I must recommend Topanga Cafe 2904 4th Avenue West, Vancouver, BC V6K 1R2 (604) 733-3713

They have been around for decades and is one of my favorite eateries in the city.

Props on mentioning the pupusas! I met this lady at my work that hooks them up when she makes a batch... almost as good as my moms. ALMOST.

As for Mexican places, Las Margaritas has a really dope salmon and black bean burrito. Not very authentic, but its delicious as hell. El Barrio is a newish place up in E. Van, haven't been yet but heard good things.

And Las Pepitas on the corner of Burrard and 4th ave has real authentic mexican, but I wouldn't recommend it. I've had better meals home cooked and the margaritas are way over priced.

Salsa and Agave is a lot busier now that the new Skytrain station is open. Now I want to go there for lunch tomorrow. :P
