In your humble opinion, who was vancity's best dj of 2009?

who really stood out as a really good local last year? this isn't a pledge of allegiance to your friends who dj. or whatever. But who really impressed you and why?

it could be any style, any club, someone who just puts out mix sets.. we could even expand this and mention dj's that rolled through town that really knocked your socks off with a terrific show.

Brent Sadowick with ease! So many of his tracks being supported by the top djs in the world.

Second only cause he's an import is Lazy Rich. He's virtualy at the status of legend. So many top hits on Beatport and at track it down.net.

Hirshee has had a big year as well....

i'm a bit of a ham, but i really enjoyed both times the Stanton Warriors came.

I saw them at Gossip when i had a broken leg and STILL had fun. God was i in pain the next day.

And then again when I saw both warriors come to celebs for the first time they played out here as a duo.

speaking of celebs, it was great FINALLY seeing the Plumps in town.

As for locals, I'd give it up to that Rico Uno. I don't do the hip hop circuit too often, but each time i've seen him he's been quality from my personal experience. And he seems to be playing everywhere now!

I've gotta say, that Mat the Alien has consistently rocked me with his sets!

I was @ that Celebs set w/ Stanton Warriors and had a bloody brilliant time!

Z-Trip, last fall, @ that corporate booze event @ the train station was probably one of the best parties I'd been to all year!

Best sets I saw last year were all at Soundwave:
- Neighbour thrice rocked my face. First in the afternoon at the Meadow, Second with live guitar and DJ Trever scratching at the mainstage, and then finally Monday morning with a classic disco set on the beach. Gave me compulsion to head out to the rocks on low tide and disco dance on one of them.
- Wood & Soo with a STELLAR all-45's set on the beach. Note that this was in the weeks after MJ's death, and they were the first DJs after his that I saw play his tracks just as tracks interspersed in their set, and not all mashed together as a tribute.
- Not a DJ but longwalkshortdock never fails to rock my face. First Saturday night at Soundwave, then opening for MSTRKRFT in Vic, then on Hallowe'en at the Lotus... I don't know how but every show HE KEEPS GETTING BETTER!

lists like these are pretty subjective and ultimately come down to personal taste. Eg. when i read 'brent sadowick' i nearly punched my monitor with rage but im sure he has his audience.

overall mat the alien/woodnsoo would be tops...easily. just sooo much versatility there.

but my personal favorite,and vote, would be Michael red.

Funny I feel the same about Mat the Alien. I just don't care for the scratch/mashup/bass that all the cool kids like.

is anybody killing it internationaly with tech house? If so they get my vote as well!

oh yeah, jon's def. made some stylistic leaps this year. his set at uprising was the highlight of the show, imo.
