this is a huge opportunity for Vancouver, and BC.. it will boot tourism, and world interest in our little coast.

SKYTRAIN TO RICHMOND! lol tats all i hafta say..but that wont happen. =(. im all for it, cuz i dont pay the extra taxes..and if our 14.5% tax dealio goes up.. sureeee y not. :soak: it will increase vancouver's tourism and popularity sooooo much. its a boost for vancouvers economy.

I totaly think we should. cause then they will spend all this money making vancouver look more attractive to tourists, and the skytrain will finally probbally goto the airpost and langly n stuff. and we will get a new highway too whistler!!! (and that is always closing down)

it will be like when Expo came here, vancouver will grow and be more populated.. and with more people things like later busses and clubs and afterhours will happen.

sure helping the homeless is great and all but will it benifit all of us and the future of vancouver and people living in it? no.. homeless are always gonna be there no matter home much liquor money u give them... leaky condo people will have their condos fixed in time. if its such a bad thing then move.

its not a excuse to build the skytrain to those locations, the skytrain will go to richmond and langley eventually, they're just saying that if the olympics came it would be a good decision for obvious reason to build the skytrain to these places. if the olympics came and they didn't build skytrain access to the airport, all those people will be taking busses to downtown, its just a logical move. and they want to fixthe highways because they are going to be overly used if the olympics are here.. would they be used at much if they werent? probbally not.

if we didnt get the olympics things would just be the same... see they are getting the bid now, so they can cut back on other things and instead of wasting tax money towards other things it will go towards the olympics making vancouver a better place which will bring more money in.

that doesn't necessairly mean that money would go to these things as it'snot aleady.. but if they can't give any money to things we need, then why the hell should we have the olympics?? if they can get all that extra money to spend spend spend on the olympics, i just think they should sort out other things first.

Krista, I think you brought up some extremely interesting points on what the money can also be used for.

I have a huge issue with the whole riverview situation. A large precentage of the homeless in and around Vancouver have mental illness......

Well then don't spend it. we don't have all that money to do everything for the olympics.. which is why i think that money should be spent on more important things, rather than the olympics. like fixing up the healthcare system (reopening riverview, hiring more nurses, opening more ward, getting patients out of the lounges, etc)

this is just my opinion. i'm not saying that the government will. and i'm not saying they won't. it's just what i THINK they should look into..

tad off topic.. how is it possible to have the skytrain come to the airport?! through which street? they keep talking about it..but i find it close to impossible. just puttin my hopes up. if the skytrain hits the airport..bring it all the way down to steveston. put the station in my house i dont care. transportation in richmond sucks ass. the choice of 2 buses for me to hit "life"..and they both take 45min+

i'm sure if they are going to the airport they will have aplace to reach most of the populated areas of richmond... :)

seriously thats why we have SO many homeless...because once riverview closed down they had no where to go, they also couldnt get their meds...

its a very hard subject


but ya i think that they shouldnt even bother with the olympics, sure it would be cool...but i dunno...go back to calgary where they already have all the olympic stuff built.
