Books...

I'd like to hope that some/most of you don't derive all your reading pleasure from message boards. That said I'm looking for some good reads this summer while I waste my life on transit to and from work.

I'm tired of the Stephen Kings... Dean Koontz... mystery/suspense/horror crap.

I've had my fill of Terry Goodkind and dragons for the time being.

I'm looking for something Copeland-esque... something with a lil bit of substance... something that'll stop and make me think.

Any suggestions?

The vampire chronicles by Anne Rice are pretty good to read, there are loads of them, but try and read them in order.
I also enjoy a good true crime book or things on the yorkshire ripper, but then again...im f00ked up lol

^^^

I read the Vampire Chronicals years ago. IMO The Vampire Lestate was the best one. After Queen of the Damned it all went downhill... I think I got halfway through Tale of the Body Thief before I got bored with all the sex. If I want sex I'll re-read Sexus, Nexus or Plexus by Henry Miller (great set of books by the way).

As for the true crime things... I'm always up for them. I've got a fairly large serial murderer book collection.

I read that one in high school... it's mandatory. I always hated mandatory novels in school.

The Crysalids (sp?) was the stupidest book ever!

The familiar passage on the literature provincial this year was from "Paradise Lost." I wouldn't have minded a passage from "The Canterbury Tales" but Paradise Lost was pretty brutal. Those are both really good suggestions, if you just want a casual read I would suggest:
"The Torn Skirt" - Rebecca Godfrey
"Normal Girl" - Molly Jong-Fast
"The Lovely Bones" - Alice Sebold
"On the Road" - Jack Kerouac

that's all I could think of off the top of my head, I'll post more later

oooh oooh

The Outsider - Albert Camus (it's short and wonderful)
also, if philosophy interests you at all a good one is: Sophie's World - Joseph Gaarder (sp?)
also, Mario Puzo's "The Godfather" made a lasting impression on me, i thought the book was much better than the movie

(haha, if you actually end up reading any of the above, i would like to hear your thoughts on 'em) :)
