Well a crappy design can be eye catching but people will be mocking it instead of wanting to go.

I would be hesitant to hire anyone who charges $20... not that they couldn't be good at design that's just very inexpensive. As a ball park I'd suggest spending 10%-30% on flyer design relitive to whatever your printing cost will be. No point printing $2000 worth of poorly designed flyers after all. Check out http://www.members.shaw.ca/konkerdesign/ that's who I have do mine and personally I really like his work.

seems like alot of people are using konker design these days, he does do a really good job though,l and i heard hes not that expensive

He's actually been turing away a lot of work... as far as rates go he's more than fair but depending on the job it could cost you quite a bit.

are you joking? I doubt buddy is looking for a IMF or TWISTED type flyer, but a small party double side print. I mean, $250 is a bit much, even $100 is more down to earth.
