Photography schools??

I didn't exactly know where to post this so feel free to move it...

I'm seriously thinking about going to photography school. The one I'm looking at right now is Western Academy of Photography on the Island. It looks pretty good however I haven't had much time to look for other schools to compare with.

I know there's one near my house in East Van called Ampro (I think) and there's courses you can take at various colleges like Langara.

Any imput anyone? I'm looking for schools here or on the Island... I don't wanna move furthur away than that. Any links or prior experience/knowledge is a total asset to me right now.

Thanx!

emily carr would probbly be your best bet cuz you can get a degree instead of a diploma from a college or academy

and i think maybe VFS might have a photography school...i know they invited me to some open house thing a few years ago but i can't remember what specific programs they have?

i have no idea to be honest. you should contact Bev...she's going there in september

i'd presume it's a little more pricey than a college only because it's a more intense programme and you will get a degree after it. but i think if it's really your passion, it's deffinatly worth it :)

^maybe you should phone a student advisor at any of the above listed schools.... they're probably a lot more informative than any of the heresay said here.

well a degree is something you usually get from a university. like you'd probably get a Bachelor of fine arts in photography

but a diploma is just a peice of paper that says "i completed the photography programme at Cap College"

I'm at work right now (which means I don't really have the time ATM). Just thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions or experience going to these schools.

I'm going to totally look into it myself of course... I mean with the money I look to be shellin out I want to be sure.

cool you're going to look into it yourself.

it's _really_ easy to just put it in the search engine and look-up schools and advisors, get their numbers, and phone/or email at a later time.

bebu*funfun will become famous soon enough
well im heading to emily carr in sept and the main reason why im going there is for the bachelor degree and it specializes really well...im HOPEFULLY (AND WILL) be getting a communication design degree...and EC is the only place in BC to get it.

i would have to suggest EC for photography school too...i think there is an option for part time though..so look into that. you take foundations for first year..which is pretty much general studies in fine art..and you specialize 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. it IS kinda pricey..but what fine art school isn't pricey. my first semester is costing me between 1800-1900 and thats full time 6 courses and a lecture class.

if you want more info or even the catalouge for it..let me know..ill be more than happy to hand it over to you.

lol i love the way sammy described diploma... he's KINDA right, but it depends the place you go to get your diploma too.. if its a really good program...etc. example would be if you get a fashion design diploma from kwantlen... ppl will recognize you, because its extremly competitive and a really good program..<--i think jenna's trying to get into that program.

be warned that most art related programs/schools needs a mandatory art portfolio to apply...so get that ready if you are serious about photography or art school...takes a while to put together.

good luck artistic friends.
