What are you reading right now?

I've started to read again and I'm always up for some suggestions on good reads.

Right now, I just finished reading Madame Saddayako: The Geisha Who Seduced the West (I highly recommend this book!), and I'm moving on to Anil's Ghost.

I know where you snagged that from! Although the irony of stealing a crimonology book is quite wonderful - much like the bible I stole from a hotel.

I haven't read a book in ages... I suppose I just don't have much patience.. I used to be an avid book reader... it feels to me, that good books are hard to find..

i borrow prozac nation from my guy friend a while back, but I got bored pretty fast.

djmarkpaul will become famous soon enough
The Illuminatus Trilogy - Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson

One of the most hilarous books I've read ever, kind of has a Douglas Adams feel to it, and just about as bizzare.

Also

The Hiram Key - Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas

Uncovers alot of mysteries that connect pharaohs, freemasons and the discovery of the secret scrolls of Jesus. Tough read to take with a grain of salt but quite the eye opener nonetheless.

Other Robert Anton Wilson books of note: Schrodinger's Cat (although you only need to read the first 2/3rds to get the point - the rest is pretty redundant) and Quantum Psycology - excellent for those who enjoy science (especially physics) and waxing philosophy re: the meaning of life and such (or the lack thereof)

Probably the greatest sarcastic wit of all time. One thing I find remarkable about him is his ability to get the reader to emphasize/symphasize with the characters even though the stories are (usually) completely satirical.

How is the new Margaret Atwood? I've never gotten around to reading any of her work (my friends might call me a feminist lesbian type if I did??) but for some reason I'm always curious about her books. I heard the last one (with the women on the front cover) was really good.

I really like it. I think it's pretty unprecedented as far as her work goes, in this one she uses a male character (first time she's ever done that) and it has a much darker more sci fi tone to it than her other works. I really don't find her other stuff 'feminist', amazingly enough most of the more feminist works I've read were all written by male authors. I think for males if you want to buffer yourself into atwood, check out Orace and Crake because it has a lot of things that would appeal to a male audience (science fiction theme, technology in it, male characters, etc.)

Although this one is not my favorite Atwood (my favorite is probably the Robber Bride), it's pretty good, I even got to go see her read from it a few months ago (and the place was PACKED).
