starting up an 'underground' newspaper
bored of reading and jerking off, a job hunt underway, i've decided to start up a bi-monthly 'underground' newspaper in an effort to battle the ignorant close minded homophobia and rascim that exists in cranbrook.
im living with my aunt, who hasn't come out of the closet here in the city in fear of losing her job, yes, it's that prevailent. I plan on distributing it at the local college and coffee shops, plan on opening up an anonymous suggestion/hatemail email address and to publish under anonaminity (<sp?). any suggestions or creative feedback would be appreciated. thanx. -max

that's what i was thinking too, but considering the fact that im working with an almost non-existent budget my biggest expenditure is going to be paper and ink, my half ass printer plus (is it ) 9" by 11's size paper + a lot of manual folding is gonna take care that.
on that note, it's not gonna be all that shiny looking, but it'll do the job. what i do need to create, or someone to volunteer, word friendly template to go by. another option i was thinking about for printing was send it to kelowna, calgary, or vancouver and get them to print and send it back, but that's not gonna happen until i can get a job and put together a budget.

lol...Cranbrook. I thought Revelstoke sucked until I drove through Cranbrook. There's not even any mountain biking in Cranbrook.
You could just print off one copy and then get it photocopied. a template would be easy enough to come up with, you just need a word processing program.

free is good. bit of a complicated matter though, my aunt is gay, but hasn't come out of the closet here in cranbrook. she comes off as very conservative and it'd actually be detremental to her job if she came out. with being in such a small town, everyone knows each other, half the people here already know im her nephew, she knows people at the college and if they knew i was printing this, they'd talk, do some math, and speculate and probably put 2+2 together. for rednecks, they're quite the troublesome bunch.
hence publishing anonamously. everythings still on the drawing board and i need to get more involved with the town, just so im not publishing random shit coming outa my ass. good idea, something i didn't know and will check out for sure though. thanx.

Where are you going to distribute it?
And why? Cause your bored seems like a rather silly reason... Plus, in Cranbrook, do you think anyone other then you and your small circle of friends would read it? Trying to start a small unread paper is not the way to battle racism...

not just cause i'm bored. You wouldn't believe the small town frame of mind that exists here. there's not a day gone by that i havn't heard a homophobe remark or rascist comment, and to be blunt, it pisses me off to know end. I'm not starting a crusade or becoming a martyr, i'm just trying to lend a little bit of personal insight and ask people to try to look at things from a slightly different angle in life. i'm not expecting to change the world or even this town, that'd be unrealistic. Even if it just does reach a few people, hence college being my main distribution target, i'd be happy.
