new job?

im really lost..

the footlocker in the same mall i work at kinda recruited me over to their store.. the footlocker manager's girlfriend is my supervisor and she put in a few good words in for me before i even knew about the oppurtunity. she rushed me over to the store and got me to drop off a resume.. and was scheduled an interview right away. i showed up at the interview and didn't get an interview cuz he was in a rush and he said he "didn't want to interegate me, cuz he already heard lots about me".. i wrote a scantron test about drugs and theft (stupidest test in the world. example of a question: yes or no: marjijuana is worst than liquor. again..stupidest test ever). my supervisor told me i failed the test, but the manager changed up some of the answers and got me to pass. (supposingly no one passes the test...the questions are really poorly worded, my supervisor filled one out to prove her bf wrong and she failed it too) and 2 days later (today) he calls me and i have my first shift next week. wut da... im so lost.

i haven't even quit my other job yet..nor do i exactly know the requirments/my pay etc at footlocker. i also dont know what i look like in stripes. wtf. anyways.. ummm..anyone worked at footlocker/athletic store before? there's a nike meeting i have to go to on sunday too... i dont know whats going on. im really really lost.

umm anyone have a resignation letter i can look at..for reference?

ok i need some honesty from some fellow ravers.. is footlocker a step up from old navy. im all about getting better jobs/moving up... i really dont know if footlocker is much better than gap inc.

^^the thing is that you have to compare that to old navy junkyard warehouse..where ppl bargain for clothes and we have a 90 day return policy and we ALWAYS take clothes back..no matter what condition they're in. its sad. this is so tough, cuz just the past 2 months old navy have been giving me oppurtunities in doing more design/merchedising work.. cuz they care about my interests/future.

still...footlocker. hmm.. + commision too.

I have a few friends working @ foot locker

haven't heard anything bad about it so far

I don't really know what Old Navy is like though (although that 90 day return thing sounds brutal) so I can't really compare the two, but why no give it a shot :)

Oh yea my sister had to take one of those tests when she applied for Wal-Mart, except it was in person face to face with a Wal Mart rep. The lady grilled her with questions like "should recreational drug use affect whether an employee should get hired" and stuff like that. My sister said no, and the lady was like "OH REALLY" right in her face (no she did not get the job)

Good luck with the Foot Locker thing.

magi..the test was brutal. example:
most ppl have broken the law once in their life time y/n
if someone has stolen something in the past, they should not be hired for their next job y/n
everyone has stolen something y/n
all drugs are bad y/n

pshhhhh i was freakin out while answering these.. i hate tests. i know the answer they want, but it wont be the truth. lol

old navy has been really really good to me.. worked there for year and a half now.. definatley gonna be tough to quit and a shock for them. BLAME IT ON MY SUPERVISOR!

Why not get in touch with the manager of Foot Locker and ask a couple questions . . . what will the pay be? What is the commission structure? Will the hours they want you to work coincide with your current schedule? Get a copy of your job description from Foot Locker (or get the manager to tell you) and ask if there much chance of growth with them or the chance to do different duties that might be interesting to you. I would ask a lot of questions before changing jobs.

I think it's great that Navy cares for their employees too. But you might be able to make more coin at Foot locker and its always good to change things up a bit.

What's so wrong with a 90 day return policy? Doesn't that make your life easier if you can take back almost anything and dont have to argue with the customers about return policy's?

ahh bev u got the job huh. Well if the pay is one thing your wondering about i think you can only expect $8 starting. Personally i think the stripes dont suit you and i think the old navy outfit is more in your favor. Step up from old navy? well old navy sounds ghetto cuase its a cheap store but i think footlocker isnt a step up i rate it the same. Both minimum wage jobs at the mall. Both retail. i dont see a step up but you can give it a shot if your tired of cashiering. and hey you can get discounts on shit at footlocker althoguh there isnt much

Keep both.
They don't sell the same types of apparel therefore it's won't be a conflict of interest.

Personally, if I were to choose one over the other, I'd keep Old Navy.

- merchandising
- you have SENIORITY (aka guaranteed hours)
- probably pays more
- probably friends w/co-workers
- know the job inside and out
and like you said...
- opportunities

Foot Locker on the other hand:
-has the saddest fucking merchandising EVER ('cause they don't care, they're selling sports stuff, not fashion)
- you'll start at probably $6.50 plus a likely 1-2% commission, which will probably round out to what you make at Old Navy, if not less
- no seniority, which means that you may just get hired now for the spring/summer rush and then lay you off when they don't need you anymore
- commission sucks because you're constantly battling for sales with other employees - you'll have to deal with people stealing your sales, your customers, etc...not only that, if you don't have a good day then you're still only making $8/hour

Make sure that you ask the Foot Locker manager everything that Geminiz said...except make sure 100% that you have:

- a COPY of your job description
- a COPY of your wage agreement
and if he guarantees you a certain number of hours, GET IT IN WRITING

I've known people that have been totally fucked by sports stores like Foot Locker, Athletes World, etc...so make sure you be careful.

Overall, I think Old Navy is a better place for you, Bev. It allows you to use your creativity and you're not pressured to make big sales. You're not a pushy person, nor are you a lying sales associate, and lots of companies expect you to be both those things because all they care about are the sales (aka $$$).

My advice would be to keep Old Navy for now, and give Foot Locker a try as well. You can always ask Old Navy for a leave of absence, or ask if you can work maybe 1 or 2 shifts per week, and work 2 or 3 per week at Foot Locker.

See how things go, but don't make any big decisions yet!

^^totally agree

i get paid almost 9 dollars at old navy right now, cuz i got promoted just 2 months ago to a more specialized weekly position. (even though the job really sucks ass). i think i really want a change, cuz ive been tehre for 1.5 years and at old navy.. things get repetitive FAST and we get some of the worst customers. like nat said.. i know the job inside out and im already one of the most efficient cashiers and can do every job in the store confidently.

i think im gonna give both jobs a try at the same time.. but im really scared that id get in trouble for it, cuz old navy has an "active wear" section. tough one. if footlocker matches what i get paid + commision im gonna be happy, cuz it looks a lot more laid back in the store. (im also scared that im hired as a seasonal..wtf i should know this)

i went job searching for a normal clothing store place, so i can dress casually and add some of my own style to how to dress, instead of an uniform. i WANT commission, because i want the challenge to sell, cuz i need that extra push and i know i have it in me. and again quoting nat..even she thinks im not a pushy person, i want to prove that statement wrong and BE pushy. my last job was a commission job too...hmm. too bad i didn't get any other calls.

another reason.. foot locker ill spend less money (ill prob just buy out all their puma stuff there)... i buy way too much clothes at ON its gross.

why do i go from a bad job to a bad job every freakin time.
