Young Drivers Of Canada

For those of you who have taken the course:

1.) What did you think of it?
2.) Would you say it was worth the money?

I am looking into taking the course now that the rules have changed and I have nobody older than 25 to teach me. I just wondered if it is worth the $849.

It was pretty good, imo. Class time was extremely boring, but the practical was alot better. I dont know if hes still teaching but if you can get a guy named Garfield to teach you, hes great. Never seen a driving instructor lean out the window yell at and finger other people before. I would have to say it was prob worth the money.

i took it last year [finished before they changed the rules]

i'd say it's worth it, especially if you've got no one to really teach you or practice with. it cuts the time down [which is really convenient] and i passed my road test on the first try. only thing i screwed up was parallel parking.

oh, and make sure you get your L BEFORE the lessons. there isn't much point in taking the lessons to help you with your L. It just makes the whole process take longer.

the guy who gave me my road test yelled at some guy. then he's like "whatever, he'll get what he deserves one day". it was amusing.

if you don't have anyone to teach you, i'd say young drivers is a good idea.

don't they let you rip through a parking lot with cones and stuff?

if you have another local driving school i'd go with them... you save money and you basically learn the same shit

i took lessons from the north shore driving school instead of young drivers... i saved a lot of money and learned to drive in the same amount of time as it would have taken if i went with young drivers

I think it would look better on my resume.

I know young drivers offers
- 3 months off the 12 months to get your N
- 1 or 2 credits toward high school grad (I need)
- Approved by ICBC and BCAA

Do any other schools offer the same things?

I had the short course just as a refresher before I took my Roadtest and I had Garfield as well. lol That guy kicks ass... he got me to go through the Drive-Thru so he could get more coffee. Did a lot of other crazy manoeuvers and stuff. :)

^^ yeah, other schools offer the exact same thing, except maybe the "approved by icbc and bcaa"

plus putting something like that on a resume is pointless unless MAYBE you're applying to be a professional driver

Don't. Use this course to focus on what you need to pass your driving test and then get a friend to teach you later on.

I have absolutly no friends...let alone friends who could teach me. I would probably have to pay somebody.

excellent advice, it's much easier to learn standard after you know how to drive.

I took it when I was 18, and I think it was a great thing. I've also had a few opportunities to use the anti-accident (can't think of the proper term...it's only 10am.) measures they teach you. I still have my N too, so I have to go take my final test and FOR SURE I'm going to take a couple of extra lessons to brush up on what I SHOULD be doing.

YD is great for all the reasons you've mentioned.

i think YD was well worth the money. i got my N in 3 months and they've taught me how to be a safe defensive driver. not saying that the other programs won't do that, but i just had a really good experience with YD and would recommend it to anybody who needs to learn how to drive! passed my first road test, i'm the queen of parallel parking, and i've actually used the emergency maneuvers that they taught me (that class is a lot of fun! you get to floor it towards pylons, swearve, and then slam on the breaks). i actually got my learners AFTER the sit-in classes so i didn't really have to do any studying on my own, and i aced the written. i think it's fine either way though...it's not that easy to fail the written.

I dont think its worth it .. they charge way to much money for what it is... Driving is simple and shouldnt be a challenge for anybody... but i guess it varies from person to person.. Ive been driving since i was 12 on my grandpa's (RIP) farm. I learned to drive on my own ... maybe you should try a different driving skool that charges less money .. if you think you really do need driving skool.
