Moving out!
Perfect way to start off the spring and to lead into the good weather. I've finally moved out! After months of searching for roommates and an apartment that would work out well in terms of cost and location, I just got the keys to my place last night. I'm only subleasing the one bedroom until July, but it works out great for me at the moment. Will give me time to find a place that I will be happy to settle into more long term, the rent is incredibly cheap for the area, and I will be getting to take care of the girl's cat Bella! <3 She definitely sold me on the cat. I know I'm going to get really attached and cry when I have to return her. lol. It's definitely smaller than I would have liked, but it will serve it's purpose for the meantime. Just glad I won't have to deal with the awkwardness and issues that I've been having at home since I've moved back from Montreal last May. Going to do some light furniture shopping later on today!

congrats erica.. now you just have to give me some tips in how to crack it to the asian parents, without them getting "offended". if u need helps with decos/painting or anything, just let me know, i love doing that kind of stuff. have fun with the new place!

the place is downtown (or as nolan calls it, IN DA HOOD), west end, on barclay and cardero. just getting to decorating it right now...went down to the drive and picked up this super tacky/gaudy bright fuschia lamp (has a gold/turquoise base) and some cool candle holders from beckwoman's. still in need of a few other things.
thanks for your offer on painting bev but i'm only subleasing this place until july 15th. i'll be on the search for a bigger apartment in the meantime so i'll have a more comfortable long-term place. just took this one cause the rent was so cheap...i've also had a pretty frustrating search for "the perfect place" so this will give me a bit more time to really shop around. as for breaking the news to the asian parents, to be entirely honest, i haven't yet. lol. this place came up SO last minute (just saw it last night and got the keys on the spot) and i hadn't said anything cause i was going to wait until april 15th. the fact that i already have the place and i haven't talked to them is going to add more to the pile of shxt to deal with. lol. they made it clear before that they didn't want me to move out. they know me well though and they know that within reason, i will do what i want to do at the end of the day. so then they said that if i move out, they won't support me until i go back to school. i wasn't expecting them to in the first place so this doesn't really pose a "threat" upon me. anyways, eeps, i'll tell you how it goes tomorrow. leanne's bringing over the cat tonight! i'm so excited to meet bella. <3 i'm going to snuggle her to pieces.

change of plans! i just got the O.K. on painting the apartment.
the living room is going to be a nice shade of light pink (the space is somewhat small so i don't want the bulk to be dark colours), and i'm going to have a thick stripe of a matching brown going through the middle with a stripe about 1/5th of the size right underneath that's gold, and a turquoise stripe near the top and one near the bottom of the wall. not too sure if it makes sense...it's not going to be as busy as it sounds. pretty simple, just to match the lamp that i bought today and give the place a bit of a retro feel. there's greenish couches in there so it'll match those too. :P i'm so excited!

i know! i'm stoked!
i just told my parents. my dad handled it a lot more reasonably than my mom did. not like he was super happy and supportive about it, but my mom was pretty mad. gah, it just sucks to have to deal with this when i'm moving out to get a bit of space and independance. i hate seeing them so angry and sad about it and having to put up with a total guilt trip. it's not like i'm doing this to be rebellious and once i move out i'm not going to see them at all. i want to be able to spend time with them once every week or two and be able to call and talk on the phone once in a while. oh well...it should simmer out with time. not like i was really expecting any better of a result than this.

wow that's very brave of you to just get the place on the spot! huge congrats in letting it out to your parents. im sure within time they'll simmer down and adapt to it. mind me asking how much rent is?
i pitched the idea of moving out during dinner tonite and it didn't turn out too well either.. but i explained my situation and the awesome oppurtunity that was presented to me. i definatley had good reasons to back up my decisions and they were impressed. no matter what i think its its definately one of those ask 3 times and just do it behind their back and have them find out type of situations. ...blah asian parents and being so young. i love the sound of ure place right now...its all about COLORS! white walls are evil!! the place will be painting real soon. it needs to be livened up cause something tragic happened last night.
bella, the cat, got dropped off and very shortly after, she had a heart attack. it was a really painful thing to watch so i'm going to spare the details. i was in shock for quite a long time and it still really saddens me. not quite sure what her health record was like, but all i know is that she was put on diet cat food to lose weight. bless her sweet soul. <3 bev, good luck with all of that. how soon are you thinking about moving out? rent was $630 cause i agreed to take care of bella, but now it'll obviously be back to the regular rent price, which is $730 (not incl. utilities). that's very typical of a one bedroom in the west end. it doesn't get much cheaper than that. one bedrooms range from $700-$1200+ depending on which area downtown you are. i'm not sure what your history is like with your parents, but i wouldn't suggest the "ask a few times and then do it behind their back" method. lol. i only did it cause i found out about the apartment literally on march 31st, so i decided on the spot. otherwise i would have prepped them for two weeks before the move. i really didn't want my parents to think that my move out was to spite them, or to be rebellious or whatever, but because of the way it all happened (so suddenly, w/o previous consultation or even mentionning it), they totally took it to heart. not a great way to feel when your parents are quite angry and sad with you. best thing to do is to just keep on bringing it up when the moment is right, and eventually they'll get more used to the idea so when you finally do decide to make the move, they won't be so shocked. i've been telling mine since january that i wanted my own place so it's not like it was entirely out of nowhere.

^^totally agree. i have pretty good reasons in moving into vancouver... ex. closer to school, school is starting earlier next year and work wants me to transfer over to dt...and many other quite legit reasonings. i just live REALLY far from where i spend my daily errunds. its either have them help me buy a car or move out..which they are well aware that i want to do. who knows.. my student loan is toppling over me.
