did you know that there was a prophecy (given by a man that was alot like jesus) that the aztecs believed that said something along the lines of "when i return i will come in a great many ships. if the flags are red with a white cross there will be peace. if the flags are white with a red cross there will be Death." then the spainish came. with red crosses.

Here's the deal. There was this Aztec god, either Tlaloc or Quetzalcoatl I think, who got tricked into sleeping with his sister, or something. He fled to the east but vowed to return one day, by sea, from the east, in a year one reed for vengence. Low and behold, this is just how/when Cortez shows up. Apparently Cortez was all white and bearded, just like this god was supposed to look. It freaked everyone out and put them at a huge psychological disadvantage.

The point is, I'm a total geek who's writing a paper on the Aztecs right now.
