Tarot
Tarot cards have always been such a taboo in my family. One of my dads girlfriends was babysiting me one weekend and pulled out a set of tarot cards and I asked her to read mine. My dad found out and totally flipped shit. Ever since I sorta forgot about them, repressed the whole situation from my memory. I recently moved in with my sister and shes been reading her tarot cards every night before she goes to sleep. I sorta think its silly but she takes it realy seriously. Anyone know much about the whole Tarot thing, I'm interested and would like to know if its real or if its just hokey pokey stuff.

I dunno much about tarot readings... but I remember that a while ago we had a tarot book and cards that one of my dad's clients left at her old house so we kept it.. I tried figuring it once but I eventually gave up cause it was written in japanese.
Eventually the idea creeped me out so much that I ended up burning all of the cards. I don't know, I think that stuff like that if taken too seriously can become an unhealthy addiction.. |

it's pictures printed on pieces of paper fabric.
If they were all pictures of feces no one would think twice, but because there's medieval designs on them and a little folklore to go with it , you think the cards are jesus or something. |

A couple notes on care of your Tarot cards if you do decide to get into them:
Sleep with them under your pillow. When you're not sleeping or using them, wrap them somehow in silk. A hankerchief works, just wrap it up and tie an elastic around it or something. Or, if you have tactile skills, sew a silk case or something for it. |

I don't think anyone can answer you if the cards are "hokey" or not - it depends on personal view -- SOme people find Catholicism "hokey" while others do not - some people think natropaths are nut bags and others do not...to each their own I read Zen tarot myself - and believe no one else should handle anothers tarot deck except when choosing cards My cards have nothing to do with seeing far into the future - but addressing situations at hand I personally believe that as i shuffle the deck the person whose tarot I am about to read sees the cards clearly in their subconcious and based on that - their subconcious knows where in the deck to pick cards that will most accurately describe what it knows to be the truth - then you just need someone to inturpret what you have choosen |

Thanx for all your info on tarot. I busted into my sisters oak box and unwrapped the deck from her green silk scarf and lit a few candles and burned some incence and shuffled the cards and randomly chose a card and It was the devil card, I'm a lil creeped out does anyone know what that means or if it means anything at all?

Which deck? Do you know? Cuz it's kinda difficult to answer it without knowing what the symbols on the card mean.
Traditionally, the devil just means a dire moment... That which was previously thought beautiful (Note the presence of The Lovers) is currently ensnared by the Forces Of Evil (or whatever... something not-so-beautiful). Problem with single-draws is that they're thoroughly ambiguous as to whether it's about attitudes, actualities or situations. Usually my guess is that "You're currently in a place where this is true at this moment in time" and usually clarifying that tells you what you need to do. But again, that's my interpretation. Did you by chance have your sisters permission to use her cards? Because it's a rather Not Cool thing to do readings with any deck that isn't yours or without the person's permission. |

No I had permission, I was on the phone with her, she wanted me to do a layout for her over the phone and she interpreted it herself, when i got off the phone I thought why not the mood was there so i just randomly pulled a card out to see the picture really. I'm not sure what kind of deck they are but the devil card has a head in the middle with a third eye and a beard sorta looks like a bull or something, same kinda nose for it, and attached to it by chains are 2 people male on the left female on the right both people are nakid and behind is the sun.

Those 2 people would be The Lovers (Major Arcana VI... note that in the Hero Quest circle, the Lovers are directly opposite The Devil. This happens a lot.). The Devil is one of the more interesting cards to look at. Ever see the cover of Tenatious D's album? It's modelled after that card.

No.
Like I said. My deck. You don't have my deck. And when I give readings I'm the one who shuffles and deals. If you really are interested in it, I seriously recommend picking up a deck of your own, taking care of it, and read, read, read about it. It takes patience, but Waiting Is. |

Hrm.
If you make any trips southerly, like, say, Duncan, PM me ahead of time and let me know. We could do coffee and I could give you a talk about my cards. Seriously. It's been a long time since I've done a lot of this, and since my mother's just finishing up some school stuff I'm going to bug her to sit down with me and go over her stuff with me one more time. Fuck this thread was a good idea though. Thanks for coercing me to break out into them again. |
