TV Turn Off? My Take/What's Yours

I've gone with and without cable over the years. While I do sometimes appreciate the easy entertainment value of it I always find things to keep me entertained without it. For the last month and a half in my new apartment it's been no cable and I'm enjoying it. While I do watch CBC for hockey that's about it. Anyway coming right up here is TV turnoff week and I'm wondering if anyone will be participating in this or what your thoughts are. I think it's a pretty good idea, especially for the hard core watchers to just try it and see what happens without a week of "reality" TV and such.

If I moved out on my own I probably would not put cable on my high priority list......i usually spend most of my time on the interweb and when I watch the TV I'm usually watching a movie that I rented.
I'm finding that their isn't much in the way of shows worth spending my time watching lately ( except of the Aprentice:p )

Back when I watched lots of TV I participated.

When I didn't, I participated by watching TV every day.

Nowadays I don't really care. I've seen some dumbass FUD on the part of the media to try and dispell it... I saw one of the dumbest articles ever about it in Time Magazine a couple years ago.

i hate tv i only watch it for sports, hockey and football and sports shows :)

ive pretty much stopped watching tv. ill watch qaf once the fourth season starts next monday though.

Try this experiement: dont watch tv at all for 3 months.
then try going back and watching it. you'll realise how stupid every single show on tv is.
its like being detoxed from a drug.

tune in and tune out...

T.V. is not a problem for me. However, if you asked me to go a week w/ out my puter.....that's a whole different story.

i would die without tv. i hate reality shows though. i usually just watch reruns of seinfeld & whatnot.

Television lost its luster when I went without for about a year or so. After the yr I couldnt stand watching what I can only describe as crap, that seemed to be on almost every channel. Granted the convenience is still enticing and kills the boredom from time to time but I dont think it will be difficult be supportive of TV off week... mind you if the nucks are still in the playoffs I wont be :)

Hnn... Every good show that ever aired is now appearing on DVD. I'd rather go that route than have to sit through commercials.

As for sports, well, that's why God created the Sports Bar. :smoke1:

Having no TV will make this very easy for me.

And the way the canucks are playing, it doesn't look like that will be a problem either. =(

survivor is the only show that i watch.

the tv will be off for the entire week, except from 8-9 on thurs.

meh, i could definitely live without. i just moved into my place a couple weeks ago and i got basic cable but i rarely ever turn it on. it's nice to have when you have people over, but i guess that's what dvds are for. i definitely could not live without internet, but i'm thinking about cutting the cable just to save some costs. i'm really impartial towards it cause i don't really follow any sitcom or show every week (cept for when ANTM was on :P).

i went from having 200+ channels at my parents' house to 2 at my current place of residence. i still read the summaries of my some of my fave shows, but mostly i don't miss it. i'd definately be lost without my computer, but i did go without it for 4 months when i was backpacking. honestly, there's not much luxury stuff like tv that you can't go without, if you had to.

i don't really watch tv at all, i'm on my computer more than anything.
i don't even know when or what channel anything is on. i really like the food network and the life network..i sometimes watch channel 29, and hockey...but thats pretty much it. the only show i would religiously watch was America's Next Top Model.

There's 4 televisions in my home, and I dont want any of them (only to watch movies) I find that TV is mind numbing and pointless. I haven't watched TV in years. If there's a sitcom, i'll wait for the DVD to come out.

Could it be that this generation will be the first in many to break the addiction to tv? I can already see the advertising executives shaking in their collective boots at that thought.
