what!? Music on your computer?

so in this electric world of ours I'm sure we all have downloaded, streamed, ripped, stripped, remixed and composed the sounds of music on our computers.

so where did it all come from?

I tend to only buy vinyl these days so it takes a week before I'll record my favorite tracks in a mix cd or compilation. I'll download a lot of mp3s and share a large amount of music of a # of host web sites and ftps [thanks hammered and (LJF) ] with my friends around this interweb world.

This last month I've been doing more research in to internet radio and live online streaming. really enjoying the idea and the freedom of it.

where do you get your beats? and whats better am/fm or online radio?

I only buy vinly as well... I almost never shop in actual record stores. Mostly buying used, or imported from Germany & the UK. I download alot of mixes usually. and sometimes actualy tracks off Soulseek

Oh and.... online radio is better... except you can only listen on your comupter :(

I get a lot of MP3s... I like a lot of German Punk and Techno. A lot of stuff I look for can't be obtained from HMV or A&B Sound... hell I've stumped people at Virgin before. amazon.com is expensive as hell... so download I do. Streaming Radio is wicked. When I had ADSL I had di.fm playing almost 24/7.

nowadays i only buy vinyl and record it all onto my comp.. used to pirate everything tho, had all my cds ripped into mp3s and about 30gb of downloaded music on my comp, and any movies i rented i would also rip into divx and distribute on the net.. been awhile since then. Also internet radio is way better than am/fm.

Mostly rips or downloads on mine. However, I've such pathetic memory, I can't store a whole heck of a lot. My computer's mainly just an intermediate place before an MP3 ends up on disc.

Stuff on my computer:
If it's MP3 I've probably downloaded it.
If it's OGG I've probably ripped it.
If it's FLAC it's for a friend.

I <3 my Rio Karma.

when it comes to drumnbass, all my music is pretty much on vinyl..... i have a VERY hard time finding 90% of the tracks i have on wax on mp3 for some strange reason. I used to preview tracks through sour on effnet but now that i lost that hookup, its just been using real audio to preview or going to record stores to preview.

everything else, napster, scour, audiogalaxy, kazaa, dc++.... i've used em all and still use alot of em. Usually dont have a problem finding high quality audio.

oh and one more thing i've recently subscribed to the promo only music pool. gotta love new music in your hands 5 months before release..... lookin at joining many other pools as well. hopefully more vinyl pools

^ I was on a number of record pools for years definately the way to go essecially if you have to cater to a commerical crowd. Promo only was essecially good for the hip hop singles if I remember correctly.

i have to buy all my cds. i guess i'm sort of insane in that way. i like supporting artists, mp3 file quality bothers me, and i'd like to have all my cds to listen to when i'm on my death bed, looking back at my life.
i just use itunes to rip them, put them on my ipod, then i store them away and they are never heard of again.
..until i am dying.

direct connect "trance addict" and "World DJ" servers. They have every mp3 I've ever searched for, ever. All these hard to find Vinyl's are always ripped... sneaky basterds.

and MC Hammered's server is great for local sets and tracks.

i download most of mine, i used to rip alot of them but ended up not having tha cashflow to support buying music. I do buy vynil when i have the cash but thats rarely i have enough to splurge on records. I usually get my music off soulseek, irc (private servers), ftps, www's, etc.. and i've got PLENTY of room to store it on my pc... *cough* 270GB *cough* with another 250gb on the way..

i listen to my dubplates on online radio, and download them and listen to them.. although i do not share my music, as the artists who created it would not appreciate it. so i listen to all my new DNB tracks, and mixes.. here what i like, and ALWAYS buy what i like on vinyl so i can play, rewind and manipulate, to my hearts content.
