what is a large safe vehicle?

Im looking for new wheels after writing off my crx. I dont really know anything but Hondas but now I need something;

-with air bags
-large enough that I wont die in a car crash
-seats at least 4
-is between 20 and 30 grand

I dont really care about power and speed, just safety. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a history of crashing your own car into inanimate objects, you're better off to buy something smaller that will protect you and not something bigger that will cause damage to property/people.

i for one could never buy an suv because id be worried about running someone the fuck over.

I don't think it's the vehicle that needs to be safe, it's the person behind the wheel.

this drunk kid pegged me, he was going 80 to 90, took off half the engine, it was bad. but i was aiight because i was in a 2003 intrepid, very good safe car. I'm driving a grande prix gt now, its big and pretty safe.

well, if you think about the amount of OTHER people out there who don't drive safe, a safe vehicle really IS important.

a couple of years ago, I got rear-ended by a big truck. the car was a total write-off, but I was ok. honestly, I owe it all to my volvo. if I was driving some civic coupe or something, I think my back would have been in a lot worse off condition..

anyways.. funny story to tell! this came from a good friend of mine who used to work at hertz. apparently, this guy went to rent a car from hertz. little did the hertz people know that this guy was actually plotting to murder his family and commit suicide at the same time by driving the car off a bridge or a ramp or something. unfortunately, the guy wasn't too smart by renting a volvo. the family ended up surviving and the guy was sentenced to I don't know how many years in prison.

I love volvos!!

volvo...you could get a nice but used s70 t5 for that much...it would be alot faster/luxurious/bigger/reliable/safer then your crx...and they seat 5 confortably.

volvos are fuckin dope if you get over the old man image associated with the car

P.S haha i cant beleive how many people are big upping the volvo massive in this thread....honestly, my first car was volvo and it treated me well for 15 years until some dumb bitch rearended me going like 60km in the rain....her car was smushed into half the orginal size but i couldve drove home if my exhaust wasnt hanging....anyway when im older if if volvo makes a cheaper sports coupe ill be rolling in one of those bitches.

DJDeeb is on a distinguished road
For a car I'd suggest VW GTI ( 2doors) or Jetta ( 4doors ). There very solid cars, they have front & side air bags ( you can even get an option to have a side curtain air bag that comes down from the roof )
Also the engine is not a gus guzzler like an SUV would be ( 1.8L turbo, 2.0liter, and a 2.8 V6 )

Boniville!!!! I once hit a patch of water comming off the highway and hydroplaned into a barrier. left only a little scratch on the bumper. Thing is a monster! *tear* I miss the malitia mobile :(
I hear Volvos are pretty good. I trust older cars that are solid and arn't all made of fiber glass though. I'm sure you could save yourself some cash getting an older car too. I wouldnt get anything to big because it could be a lot of car to handle if you are really used to driving a small car like your old one though. Well and also because of gas prices having a big car or suv would put you in the poor house.

Volvo... like everyone says, they's ugly as shit but they'll take a beating. Or you could always go for a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark VIII. Now if you hit anything with that, they'd better hope that they're driving a Volvo as it would be like the Bismarck hitting a Seabus. :)

Ok thanks guys.
Im going to start checking into volvos. Its not so much that I think Im gonna race about and hit things its more that Im scared to drive after the accident and Im trying to ease back into driving because its a necessity.
More peace of mind than anything.
