One Man Lord of The Rings

Just got back from seeing this play at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.

Wow. One guy in basic black clothing does as much of the three Lord of the Rings movies as he can. No props, no sound effects, no nothing. Just him on a stage. His voice immercinations are, for the most part, fucking amazing. He throws in a bit of his own humour into it ("Do you know how orks came to be?...Read the Sumirellion...All of you..." and "Mr. Frodo, are we gay?")

The show was sold out, and I think he only has one show left, but he will be back for the Fringe Festival, where I am a regular attendee, and I say go see it.

it's silmarilion (maybe it has two L's? i'm to lazy to look at my bookshelf)

keep me posted on it. i'm a HUGE fan of Tolkien. i even own "letters to father christmas" who the Fuck in their right mind would buy that book?

then they'll make a made for tv series of "unfinished tales"

Or they could do a Simarillion movie and call it "Slow aggonizing and never ending eternal boredom guaranteed to make you want to claw your eyes from your head." :) (I read the book and it took me forever as it was so dry I fell asleep every chapter.)

dude! all those words were in that guy's head! if civilisation were to collapse and that book was amongst some of the only survivors, people would think that that is how the Earth began and they'd think that melkor did something to destroy the Earth!

^it's true. Tolkien was a genius. however, that doesn't make the Silmarillion an interesting book.

seems like more his way of working out the history in his own mind. not meant for the pleasure and enjoyment of others.
