weird noises...in my jaw...?

This has been occuring for a while and I can't remember when it first started but sometimes when I chew, open my mouth wide open or yawn.. i hear these weird grinding noises on the left side of my jaw. It sounds like there's sand stuck in between my left jaw or something and it bothers me cause I feel like my jaws are deteriorating or something... i don't know how.. but...

I finally googled it and I think it might be due to teeth clenching while I sleep... but I'm not sure.

anyone else experience this?

I get this in my knee somethimes. I think it just hardened cartaledge (sp?) from over use.

So ya, clentching your teeth would constitute over using your your jaw.

I get that too cus i clench when im sleeping, my dentist gave me like a mouth guard thing to use at night.

for the past 3-4 months, I've had problems opening my jaw. Sometimes it gets really bad.

I found out it's from my Wisdom teeth. They are coming in, and they're grinding against anything and everything on their way out. I'll eventually be getting them out this summer. Have you had your wisdom teeth out yet? That could be the cause.

yeah i got it too.. its eerie even

my jaw cracks like a MOFO and i get a wicked case of lockjaw on occasion

oh well. stress results in jawclench resulting in weird noises

i have the same problem. i have been told i grind my teeth so hard when im sleeping you can hear my teeth squeeking in my room from down the stairs with the door shut.

and my jaw is always cracking and crunching... im waiting for a mouth gaurd at the moment which is supposed to help.

I got that as a little kid, and it turns out that I had something in my jaw, like bits of a tooth that was only partially pulled out due to big roots or something like that..

I was like 8 at the time..maybe 9. Anyways, I had to go get surgery done for it. It wasn't all that painful, and I got to eat lots of popsicles.

Perhaps get your dentist to do some x rays!

my jaw is FUCKED ever since i had braces. sure my teeth are straight but i can't bloody open my mouth without cracking both sides. it sounds horrible.

definitely get it checked out cause it's one of those things where you'd much rather make an appt and get some xrays done now than have a fxcked up jaw that is always in pain and sore when you're older.

I've got something similar, i can crack my jaw on either side at will. Doctors can't figure it out, but its a hell of a party trick.

I get the same kinda thing excpet its more of a popping sound i've had it since i was little the doctor said its nuthin serious, but its still so annoying...even happens when im kissing *Discruntled face*

I think I'd better go to the dentist.. and I'm going to look into those mouth guard thingies if needed.
