Alraight so change of plans...once again...

It's decided im leaving to backpack Thailand and hopefully some other near by countrys (cambodia, laos, veitnam, indonisia) right after Apex and return on the Labourday weekend :D

If any of you have been or know ppl who have traveled and have any good/crazy/bad stories... your more than welcome to share adavise :)

The best time for Thailand is in the fall and winter. I just got back from a month there in March. It got REALLY hot there and the late spring / summer are the low season because of the friggen heat.

It really depends what you want from your trip. I went backpacking...so I did the north first...bangkok, sukathai, lopuri and chiang mai (best place in Thailand).

I spent my last week in the south on the beach...ko lanta and then ko phi phi. ko phi phi sucked, way too many tourists there, it felt like whistler on a tropical beach...it's not bad if you're looking to get laid..hehe.

Hazard: Thanx a ton! I know augest isnt the best time and ill be expecting rain. I hope my time in the out back desert and northern australia toughend me up for the heat and humidity :D
Things im curiouse about are like what companies are best (transport/accomidation/resturants) if you know what ones are really shaddy and what ones are safer? Also I know there are some issues with some of the musslams wanting to ceperate (tarorist issues) If you have a better idea where or whats may be going on with those politics?
I am absolutly dieing to see the temple ruins in Cambodia... however ive been hearing some very dodgy stories and advised not to go near the country?

wear very little clothing in the day
my mom went to Thailand in the summer when she was younger...she said she couldn't get dry 'cause she was constantly soaked in sweat from the humidity.

I used guest houses....the best thing u can do is get a Lonely Plant book from chapters!!! best buy i ever made...i usually stayed in places that were around 5 bucks a night...still clean and the way to go if you are backpacking

you mean angkor watt?..it should be relatively safe and easy to travel there

Well I decided to go for the compacked "south east asia" version... however the latest one was published in 2001 :/ So I scraped the last copy of the "lets go" serries wich has proven jsut as helpful... if not more :)
Ive also been thorugh "globtrotters guide" its full of storeis and fantastic in-depth advise on traveling and how to pick safer resturants, water, and 3rd world saftey... which will be my first attempt with.

btw... how much of the thai language would you recomend tryign to pick up?

Oh yes Angkor... Its a world wonder... and ive been dreaming to see it ever sence the eposode of lonly planet through cambodia... theres also the temple of trees wich also looks absolutly amazing... and i hear there are rare river dolphins as well. Its so close and cambodia is so tiny to travel though however there still getting over some very though civil war/politics (wich im trying to understnd better) and it has the largest amount of land mines than any other country!!! My book goes over and over about how not to go alone or ever out at night... bandants are very common.
Kenny say's his backpackes budy hered "if you go into cambodia you never come out" Of corse thats a myth... but im sure things like that can and do happen :(
Maybe ill check out laos or indonisia... still hesitent about veitnam too, but one backpacker told me it was her favorite by far of all south east asia.

you will be fine. as soon as you land there will be a TON of other people you can travel around with to show you around etc.
party on the beach in KoPangYang (i cannot spell it AT ALL).
tucktucks are scary as FUCK but you have to ride in one.
rent a moped and bike around the mountains.
i forget the name of the island, but there are lots you can travel to which are just like the beach in "the beach", you can even go to that exact island and stay there for the night.
dont eat pigeon, it tastes like shit, and they serve it with the head *bleh*

lets go is the best imo, it was the newest and the cheapest, and lonely planet is the most popular so places to stay often fill up quick.

might boats are just uncomfy. you sleep on the floor on mats, side to side. its an interesting experience but kinda dangerous and long. it was fun though,, but fuck everything is fun when your away like that:P

as for transportation i suggest using the government run buses, trains etc for longer trips to the north ot east.your small, youll fit fine. its often a bit longer but its a good way to meet some thai people and see things from a different angle i think. use the package things for when your moving around the islands in the south.

i was there for aug last summer and it wasnt really that wet.pick up a cheap little umbrella in bangkok and you will be fine.

fuck i am ready to go away again. i want o do the same sorta trip as you, vietnam to indonesia for a few months.jan perhaps.

are you going alone?

Thailand is SOOOOO awesome!!! I love it there!!!!just stay outta trouble, the government there is trying to keep foreigners out, as always. anyways its hella cheap there be careful to watch out for poisonous snakes!!!HAVE FUN!

^ what do you mean the goverment is tryign to keep foreigners out? Thailand has to be one of the beiggest tourist destinations in teh world... all that $$$ form uk,aus,us,can etc... Besides you DONT even need a visa to stay for the first 30 days?
