This thread is d-day in perticulaer not the whole war and my grandfather fought and lost some freinds that day and they shouldn't be forgotten. That is one fo the most important day's in the 20th century.

yeah i know it is .. not like d-day is differnet than any other day in the war .. people died, people killed .. its all the same other than the fact that it was the one last forcefull attack on the germans which made them cave in.. they took over the western front and freed france and belgium and norway and kicked kraut ass

im not saying my grandpa were any better than urs.. but not like they didnt contribute to the end of the war .. without their guerilla intervention the nazis would not have fallen to the russians

Learn your facts man d-day was the most important day of the war, sure the people fighting in the underground were all very brave and faced torture if they were caught but the germans would have still fallen to the soviets without them.

And d-day wasn't the last forcefull attack.

Dieppe for one, it was a failure , but the lessons learned on that campaign contributed to the success of the D day landings.

like scarface said..it was called a world war for a reason, it would have only been a few years before North America was seriously threatened..and even if we werent..history would have been alot different had we not successfully invaded continential europe.

quit being so ignorant.

read a book, canadians fought in all of the major battles on the western front in the european and african campaigns...and we fought in a few of the battles in the pacific.

after the war canada had the fourth largest military in the world, of course we used it.

Maybe you should have paid more attention in history class:

The Somme, 1916
Vimy Ridge, 1917
Passchendaele, 1917
(all very important battles from WW1, most of these names are pretty common knowledge.)

Normandy, Dieppe...both important events in WW2

Not to mention the Canadian Navy's very signifigant contribution to the war taking place in the Atlantic Theatre of war.

I did pay attention in history class you arrogant fucks.
read the sentence again. "CAN *WE* name more battles?"

Was it: "Canada never fought in any battles except D-Day!"
Or: "American fought the entire war!"
Or: "Canada did nothing for the war!"

no. Notice the "we" in that comment.

after the failure of operation market garden, canadians were almost entirely responsible for liberating the low land countries of belguim, luxemburg and the netherlands. canadians participated in the battle of normandy, my great uncle had part of his foot blown off in the invasion of napoli and he participated in the invasion and occupation of sicily, and the rest of italy as a canadian soldier. Canadians participated in the liberation of france as well as the drive towards Berlin. A canadian Battilion was almost entirely wiped out in hong kong when the japanese invaded, canadian troops also fought with the british in singapore and india and burma.

p.s i am an arrogant fuck and you can suck my dick because i dont give a shit.
