I did the very same thing for the same reasons when I shortened Nevada to Nev... For whatever reason, people have a much easier time hearing me when I say Nev, versus Nevada. Lots of people have no idear what my full name is, and get confused when they hear ppl from work or old friends calling me Nevada. M'eh, either works.
