anyone know lots about dogs?

so i woke up this morning and my dog has a big lump on her shoulder.
its not hard, its soft so it feels like swelling, and i took her out and shes no worse for wear. still her normal self. it doesnt bother her if you push on it or anything.
shes been stung by bees before and has swelled up, but not this huge..... its massive. its inbetween golfball and baseball size and shes only about 15-20 pounds.
whatchyall think it could be?

Take him to a vet asap, chances are it IS a tumor.
Alot of dogs develop their tumors that swell up on the exterior of the body (alot like the one you're describing). This is something you shouldn't really be poking at, or ASSUMING it is a bee sting. You should take him to a vet immediately.

if shes older, it's most likely a fatty lump (espahlly if its not hard)

Ifs its kinda squshy.. and moves... and it doesn't hurt her... i'm almost positive its a fatty lump (my older dogs (ones 18 and ones 9) are full of them. sometimes they swell a bit bigger, but they've been checked by a vet. and its al good.

but they should be checked by a vet who knows what they are doing

We had a student vet try to talk us into removing it just to see what its like and to an disction of the thing. so we took her to another vet who said, its no pain to her, not gonna harm her in any way.. just leave it.

SOOOO

best bet.
fatty lump... but get a vet to look at it. (good luck hugs)

correction...beneign tumour...that or it could be some sort of unsoundness related to a small puncture or a bruise wound. Best bet to take the dog to the vet!
PS: dogs don't bury their shit either...cats do..therefore cats are cleaner animals :keebler:

taking it to a vet is pretty pricey, so why don't you just head down to the nearest pet food store and see if they know anything.

bosleys is the best.

it could also be an abcess. I wouldn't run to the vet right away. I would try bosleys too. but if you want with my refferals to my vet you get 50% off. let me know if you want the card

yah could rarely be a cancerous tumor but its probably just a heat spot... ithink thats what they are called i think they get them when its too hot. and then it gets all gross and they start biting it and chewing so if that happens it is a heat spot and you can take them to the vet and get this cream that costs like a million dollars or you could just use a human moisturizer that doesnt have perfums and too much crazy chemicals in it

she was just at the vet last week for her annual check up and our vet is very thorough and great - so i dont expect its a tumor\something cancerous as they took blood from her then. plus it just kinda popped up outta no where, like seriously in a matter of 10 minutes which makes me doubt its a tumor unless if its some sort of crazy tumor.
we are thinkin it may be swollen because she squeezed through a fence last night and could have hurt it then.
my bets are still on bug bite\sting. she has a tendancy to chase things.
we are taking her in tomorow if it hasnt gotten any smaller, we dont mess around when shes sick\could be. or at least i dont and i dont mind paying the bill, i love mocha.

heat spots or fatty lumps... shes mid life right now so the fatty lumps sounds like it could be that, and shes got long hair so it could be the heat thing. but we have tons of wasps and bees and my basment is flooded with wolf spiders - thats an exageration but i see at least 2 or 3 a week, and to me thats alot. and i never even thought it could be an infection in an abrasion. didnt cross my mind, and shes been digging like crazy outside.
thanks for all the words, ill get a doctor answer tomorow.

and tumors don't just pop up, they grow slowly.

But if it just swelled all of a sudden like that, is probably a bite of some sort.. although bug bites tend to be sore hem

Well good luck at the vet, i know when my puupies have something liek that it worries the crap out of me.

when have you heard of a tumor developing overnight like that?
NEVER.
my horse developed a hematoma overnight on her hip, it is the size of a large orange, and it's been there for a few weeks, those things, if not painful and filled with pressure, go away on their own.
i would say my best guess is that it would be an abscess or bug bite.
i wouldnt worry too much and i wouldnt go running off to the vet right away, if it's not causing her any discomfort when you push on it and if it's not inhibiting her living.
also, if it's not hot.
if you put your hand on it and it's giving off some heat then the body is rushing blood to the area to heal something.
heat is a good indicator of injury.
also check under the fur in that area for small cuts or abraisons, some dogs, like horses, swell up at the tinyest nick on their skin.

My brother had a tumor that grew to the size of a mans fist in two weeks..
Anything is possible, but from the sounds of it, since it's not painful in any way, depending on how squishy it is, it could be congeeled fat, or a cist* lol everyone has different ideas..

ok, first of all, heat is a good indicator of inflammation. a hematoma is pretty much the same thing as a bruise. but not all bruises are warm, but it's still a form of injury.

and how could you not worry about an abscess? depending on where it is, it could be pretty dangerous to be just left alone!

meghan: I don't know too much about dogs. but kevin's cat once had a pretty big lump on one of his legs. and it turns out it was just a cyst that would go away on it's own. not saying that it's probably a cyst.. but just offering a possiblity.

not all injuries become inflammed, my horse had a little scrape on her knee yesterday, it was hot but not inflammed.
when a horse gets a bone chip in it's knee it gets hot, or when they buck their shins their shins get hot but there's no inflammation (with a bone chip in the knee, the joint capsule may fill up with a bit of blood or a little extra sonovial fluid causing pressure in the joint which is very hard to detect to the inexperienced eye/hand).
so, heat is not only inflammation, but injury.
and yes, i know what an abscess is, being a horse trainer and having horses for most of my life i have learned how to deal with them in hooves and muscles.
i didn't say not to worry about an abscess, but if the dog isn't in obvious pain don't go rushing him to an emerg vet. watch it and see what happens, if in a few hours the swelling subsides, then it was probably a bug bite, if the swelling becomes harder or uncomfortable in a couple hours or dosn't go away after a day or so, then call your vet or go see your vet. like many have said, it could very well be a bug bite.
my horse's hematoma is hot, bruises, when fresh, are hot.
i will also add that my the hematoma on my horses hip is mostly gone now, it's taken a few weeks for it to reabsorb, but it's going away on it's own.
