Tree planting, visas, ways to GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!?!

Any suggestions or information on affordable ways for me to get away and prefferably go somewhere or do something that will benefit me personally.

Any info or stories you can give me on things like tree planting or other programs, certain visas etc. you need to travel, hostels and so on would be very helpful.

Australia... there's a work/vacation Visa for like $150 I think it is... you can go down there and work and vacation for 6 months? My friend was talking about it when he came back from there a couple weeks ago. I'm tempted to do the same and see if I can finish my Flying there cheaper.

Well I know I couldn't last in that environment for very long, but the idea of COMPLETELY getting away from civilization, out in the woods, working with nature sounds really really nice to me at the moment.

However I would preffer to do something more adventurous and fulfilling like really traveling somewhere far from here, but where I can enjoy the landmarks, culture, enviroment and people.

Thanks Miska, will do. I know a few people who have gone, and i'd still like to hear some "testimonials", but what I also need are a few links/contact info to the companies or whatever that organize the trips.

I have just been offered a spot on a word wide burlesque tour! Not only could I be performing with one of the best known troupes at the moment, I could travel allover the world. wow. If everything works out with my age (under 21) and financial considerations I think I just might take the offer and use that as a way to travel.

fuck tree planting! haha

With a busy schedule like this http://www.victoryburlesk.com (a show almost every night or two, for at least a month) It won't be much of a "break" per se, but I will get to get away from here for a while, travel, meet new people, do something I love, and get some great publicity and experience (while hopefully making some cash). I still can't believe I've been handed such an awesome opportunity.

i'm not really entirely sure... I think it's just a group of young people that travel around canada and help kids learn... i think that's what it is, and you stay with a family in whatever city you're staying in at the time... but that one kind of sucks, there is this other program that I was going to go in last year but I didn't, I totally forget the info, I'd have to find that pamphlet, but its only about 200 bones and you get to even go over seas if you're lucky..

my next-door neighbor owns a tree-planting business. from the stories he has told me, it sounds like a complete waste of time. i suppose it depends on the company, but the pay when you first start out is complete ass. especially considering you have to put in 10 hour days of back-breaking work in the sun. unless you are looking to either get out and spend time outdoors or party and smoke pot for a summer, it's a waste of your time.

stick with the burlesque thing, that sounds like an awesome opportunity anyways. that way you will get to travel and get paid to do something that you actually want to do at the same time.

another suggestion is to go and teach english somewhere in asia. this would require alot more of a commitment and financial investment though.

Yeah, I wasn't really looking to the tree planting as a way to make money. But it does sound like hard work, and i totally forgot that my allergies might be an issue too.

I've got more info on the tour and I think it is a great opportunity and I'm pretty sure i'm going to take it. I just have to pay for my one way ticket to Chicago, where the tour starts, and she said that if they can afford it, or if its a big deal they will reimburse me. Even if they don't its possible that I can make it back after a couple shows. I even have a chance to make money by making and selling merchandise (another thing I've been thinking of doing for years but never really got around to). They pay for other travel expenses too.

treeplantings not that bad.. i just returned from my 2nd season of treeplanting a few days ago.. sure its hard work, but your body gets used to it pretty quickly, and you get to spend A LOT of time outdoors and travelling around the country for free. i was making $300/day, but its all piece work so the harder you work, the more $$ you make. treeplenting seasons over now BTW. unless you go coastal planting which they only hire hardened vets for, the normal planting season runs from may 1 - end of july/sometimes into august.
