I don't mind forkin over some cash to someone who really needs it, but I always prefer to give them the food instead.

It's when they get in your face about not giving them the cash that really pisses me off! Fuck, I don't need to help you... things must be rough for you, but have some appreciation.

i don't believe in giving hand outs, no matter what the reason is behind their homelessness. it might seem like the kind thing to do in the short term, but in the long run i don't think it's helping anyone. for the real hard-luck cases, it's just prolonging their descent towards rock bottom - ie the point where they must either seek help or die. As for the kind of street trash who hang out on Davie St... well i'd honestly rather give them a face full of pepper spray than a fucking penny. They've chosen the lifestyle of being a street urchin, leeching off the same society they claim to reject. Anybody who's sypathetic to them is not only a fool, but just as much a part of the problem as the street kids themselves.

Another misconception is that all pan handlers are homeless... not true. Lots of panhandlers can pull down the equivalent of a minimum wage job, tax fee, plus collect welfare & apply for low-income housing... you may as well hand your extra sub right back to the guy behind the counter, because he's probably not making much more than a 'career' panhandler.

not to seem heartless, i do have sympathy for anyone who's out on the streets because of a disablity or an illness, even drug addicts... but imo giving handouts is a quick-fix that is more detrimental than helpful in the long run.

i seriously think that if u put your mind 2 something u can accomplish it... anyone can goto the lost and found get some nice clean clothes.. any one can goto a work help place and print out a resume and anyone can walk around town and pass out resumes lookin for a job..
Homeless just are lazy, they like the *easy* life i mean do watever u want no bills no rent nothing.. i mean sure theres some downsides but they chose that life...
I would also never ever give a homeless person money, but i mean if i have a sandwhich or an apple of watever in my bag and a homeless person asks me for money i will give em the food instead.. at least they cant sell if for drugs :)

and yeah I bet about 10% of them just had some bad luck and ended up out on the street, and for the other 90% of them, probably drug related.

its called saving ur money for when u get in rough times...if ur smart with ur shit, and u dont fuck around...u may go thru rough times but u cna still have a place to live and some food..most of them smoke...u know how much food u can buy with 10 bucks a day? enough to survive. thers no excuse for being homeless, unless ur house burned down and u have no friends, no family, and u dont knwo where the nearest shelter is.

this does NOT mean that im not down with helping some of these guys out with some food...i do it all the time. and i always talk to them and they always tell me, yah i fucked up man and now im here. its hard to find someone that hasnt fucked up. theres always options...even if u got bad luck...if u got the will power and determination...u can do anything.
