Thinking about applying for a Cruise Ship...

But I know they have pretty stringent drug-testing.

I've looked up the "time frames" that drugs can be detected in your body, and the only thing they'd find on me from recently is alcohol.

Does anyone know what type of test they normally use? Is it blood, urine or hair? I'm home-free if it's blood or urine...If it's hair I might be screwed...

Anyone know or have any friends that might?

thats pretty crazy... i would imagine they would do urine... i dont know though... check it out on the interweb...

A friend who recently got a job as a stagehand on a large cruiseship had to pee in a cup as a part of the final interview process, and he'd smoked weed two weeks before. He got the job.

i don't think drug use is a big issue, but your health. you can't have sick people working on a ship!

dood, i know a lot of people who have worked on cruise ships in the casinos, i dont think they do drug tests.

The company I might apply with says specifically on their website that they do drug tests.

They take a section of hair about the same size as a pencil and test it for drugs. The drug residues grow out in your hair, and it's supposedly the most accurate type of drug test.

i have a few friends who worked/work for cruise liners and they have nothing good to say aboot them.

I did 4 years on various cruiseships. First before you get hired you have to get a full physical exam done including chest xrays. Then they send you for a full blood and urine analysis. After this they can and do do random drug testing onboard the vessels from time to time. Noone in my department (entertainment) ever got the random check but we sure got loaded alot and got in trouble for being drunk in public places. Initially its a very intimidating enviroment to work in but after a couple of months (which aren't easy months) you'll be loving it. If you are in the hotel department which you most likely will be you can usually drink and hangout in most public lounges and areas but there are crew only bars and gyms also available. DO NOT WORK IN THE SALON!!!!!!! These girls work crazy long hours and get paid the shits. Genereally they don't hire canadians to work in this department because we won't put up with it. The giftshop isn't that great a gig either except that the stores are closed while in ports.
If you want any other info PM me. I worked on Carnival, Holland America, Royal Carribean, Celebrity and Premiere Cruiselines. And I have had friends work the remaining 2 -3 major cruiselines so I can answer pretty much any question. Oh I hope they make you a Muster Station Leader.

My friend told me when she went to Boarding school they did the hair tests on them. Apparently if you dye your hair before the test they are unable to trace it though. Im not sure if thats true , but its what i've heard.
