WHAT IF...The rave scene started playing hip-hop/rap at parties?

While having a late late snack with a friend @ Denny's we came into the discussion of the rave scene. Many are saying the scene is dying. Mind you, I'm not old school, but i'm not a newbie either. I have noticed that big acts are showing up less and less. Who is to blame? The media for promoting raves as bad, bad parties being setup cuz of lack of funds, or is it just ravers are getting bored and leaving raving altogether.

Its probaly a combination of everything. But i came to an idea. I don't know if this will work, but it seems to work in Seattle. What if they started playing hip-hop/rap at parties.

Yes, I know everyones first reaction. Why the fuck would u want hip-hop and rap @ a party. Well here is one reason.

1 : It would get new people, therefor more funds for the companies to spend to get bigger venues and bigger acts.

Many will say, I hate rap, blah blah. I know a lot of people do, and a lot of people hate jungle. If you don't like it, then leave the room and go 2 another room. Simple. :375:

There is only one major problem that I can think of. That is ego's. People who listen to rap tend to have a big ego and I bet shit will happen. Boo Urns! :219:

But ya, I don't know, just an idea. Any comments and shit would be greatly apperciated.

PS- Twisted's New Years party will have Dj Rectangle, one of the best Hip-Hop and Rap Dj's in the world. Is this the new trend? :035:

i would hate it.
no offense to black people at all, but rap and R&B will attract only them. and they do not dance. they flop.
(thats the best way i could describe it...) :) and they have nothing but attitudes. personally, i wouldn't like dancing jungle beside some huge black guy with an attitude and if i do anything to disturb him, or even look at him sideways he'll knock my face off...
i wouldn't like that. but thats just my point of view. i guess i'm just real skinny and afraid that someone could beat the hell outta me at a party i came to to enjoy myself.

i dunno. i guess i made no sense.

hope i didn't offend anyone...

peace

I've asked myself the same thing...

I love rap muzic,,, but I just think alot folks think that it gives off a bad vibe or somethin'? I don't think it's bad vibe,,, just a little more rowdy.

and what type of hip-hop and rap are you talking about extactly???

That's a really fine line. I suppose the DJ's would have to play both, cuz hip-hop (Swollen Members, Mos Def, Dilated Peoples etc) would probaly not attract enough people. Dmx, 2pac, Dr. Dre and other rap would be mixed in.

Not neccasarily black people, but anyone who listens to rap and hip-hop. And that is the only real problem that I can really think of. Dancing to hip-hop and rap is a bit different than dancing to electronica. I'm sure people who go to listen to hip-hop and rap will probaly stick to there room and the electronica will stick to theres. :Power-P:

i've been to quite a few "raves" that had a second or third room pumping out hip hop... it's kinda funny cuz u see 4 wiggers up front trying to "tear it up", and everyone else is like "what the hell? rap?"...

It's impossible for a rave to play rap, it's too trendy, it would cease to be a rave, after all the attitudies and trends that go with rap take place.

i think we could use some country and western at parties. there are lots of people in the valley who im sure would travel out and bring in funds and dancers if there was some country and western.

therefore more money to spend on bigger venues and acts.

I personally think it would be a good idea...

I mean, it doesn't have to be the top 40's hiphop/rap they play at clubs.. like at summerlove, they had some pretty good music at the hip hop stage...

but then again, I'm biased cuz I absolutely LOVE hip hop...

I can understand why you would say such a stereotypical thing, because maybe you have met some or know someone who has a big ego, and just -happens- to listen to hip-hop. However, I know some people who do not listen to rap and they think that they are the best thing that ever came along! (I do not listen to very much hip-hop at all, infact aside from the beasties, I can't really stand it, but anyhoe.....)-my point is, that I have tons of little hip-hop,R&B,etc. lovers, as my good friends, and not very many of them are as you have just described. So please, the next time you write something so open-minded, (and I'm not being sarcastic, your post is quite open-minded, and unique.) please keep the stereo-types as an inside voice.

And back to the question of what each of us would think about rap being played: They are already doing it. They have MC's rhyming all the time while the dj is spinning. (not that you didn't know that.) and that's good enough for me! plus it would completely change everything! ie: The dancing, the people, even the name of the events......I dunno what all of you people think, but I say just leave the "rave" as it is. If you wanna have a hip hop night go to the spanish, and go to the party after, or listen to jungle when an MC is there, whatever, just please don't start spinning hip-hop at parties.

It sounds cool and all ( hip-hip is fun to play around w/ on decks, and can be fun to dance to, but just keep aphrodite and puff daddy-WOOPS! I mean "P-Diddy" separate!

WOOAAHHHHH There! Back the truck the fuck up alright! k, I'm sorry, but that comment was NOT necessary---"They don't dance, they just flop" and "They have nothing but attitudes."
No, I'm not black, and not a wigger, I'm white, and I HIGHLY dissagree w/ those little *flicks* of racism that you threw in to your argument, and I'm sure that others would agree.

Where the fuck have you people been????

Hip hop IS played at parties!!

And Pegasus...well well if that wasn't one of the most fucking ignorant things I've ever seen on this board, I don't know what the hell it was!!! As well....most of the 'black' people I have seen dance have mad skills. For example the shitloads of bboys that come out to break at parties. COME ON! I bet you can't dance worth SHIT.

the scene's not dying... only the tekkers and the ones who partied because it was the "in" thing are.. heh
who's to blame? try companies like sweet that milked the "scene" of all its worth... do you think raves were ever portrayed as being good? nope, the media always knocked raves, and companies throwing parties at the colloseum put 'raves' into the mainstream where they can be criticized even more

as natalie just stated, where the hell have you been? hehe... and why would it not work? hiphop is played at a lot of parties, you just have to find them.

bigger is not necessarily better... and bigger venues and bigger acts do not go hand in hand, for example, look at club nights with acts such as dj assault and aphrodite
