riddle?

This is a 2000 year old riddle. Please don't cheat using Google....

You stand at a fork in the road. Next to each of the two forks, there stands a guard. You know the following things: 1. One path leads to Paradise, the other to Death. From where you stand, you cannot distinguish between the two paths. Worse, once you start down a path, you cannot turn back. 2. One of the two guards always tells the truth. The other guard always lies. Unfortunately, it is impossible for you to distinguish between the two guards.
You have permission to ask one guard one question to ascertain which path leads to Paradise. Remember that you do not know which guard you're asking -- the truth-teller or the liar -- and that this single question determines whether you live or die. The question is: What one question asked of one guard guarantees that you are led onto the path to Paradise, regardless of which guard you happen to ask?

what is the difference?

you ask them to tell you which way their brother would tell you to go to get to paradise.

the truth telling brother will tell you a lie because that's what his brother would do.
and the lie telling brother would tell you a lie because well, he knows his brother would tell the truth, but that doesn't matter because he always lies. so you just go the opposite way they tell you to go.

take the door opposite to whats indicated it doesnt matter who you ask they will point to the wrong door!!!

what if you ask the question and the guard says 'this door leads to paradise' and hes telling the truth (but you don't know that ) and the other guy says 'this door leads to paradise' and he's lying (but you dont' know that)

they both will tell you that their door leads to paradise

only if you ask them to tell you which way the OTHER brother would tell you to go.

then you know that the truth telling brother will lie, since that's what his brother would do...and the lie telling brother won't tell you what the truth telling brother would say because he always lies...
