As a physicist I know this technology is basically useless in the first place as it will probably never work. They couldn't even to get a ground based missile to missile system to work and they plan to get a space based "fricken laser" to shoot them down?? This would be a huge waste of money for us.

It also does absolutely nothing to increase homeland security - as one of the United States top ex-generals said: let's assume a terrorist has a nuclear weapon or some other WMD, what terrorist has the ability to send said WMD on an intercontinental balistic missile! It would be a billion times easier for them to simply slip into the country with it and detonate it.

We all know Star Wars defence is retarded... it was started by one moron and now another moron continues it (probably making a lot of money off of it) and all it will accomplish is the start of another arms race, the fact that Paul Martin is even considering being a part of it is appauling!

To paraphrase Gilles Ducepe in the election debate, "Mr Martin, the way to improve relations with the United States is not on your knee's."

The reality is that the US needs our resources. Over and over we hear that if we do something the US will impose trade restrictions on us and so forth. I call bull shit. We have NAFTA and the WTO which will not allow this sort of thing to happen. While in many ways these agreements have hurt our ecconomy one thing about them is they do not allow arbitrary trade restrictions to be impossed.

While many Americans both in government and otherwise favor "Star Wars" many others do not and going along with such a deal just to please those people would be foolish.
