Raves in the news

Ive noticed over the last few weeks that raves have been in the news, and of course the stereotype of whoever goes to them is on some kind of drug wasnt far behind. I was just wondering what everyone has to say about this?

There are stereotypes everywhere. I think you just gotta make sure you don't become one.

Dude it's been done time and time again. I remember seeing an article in Maclean's magazine in 2000. It was all negative.

I wrote them a letter that they published in their next issue trying to show the pros as well as the cons. Needless to say.... in the long run it didn't really matter. The media will misconstrue our scene and we'll keep throwing our parties. If anything the whole issue is at an impasse.... no one will win.

yea this was the what type of drugs your kids do, and as soon as my parents watched it for about 30seconds they turned to me and gave me the whole "drug" speech.

but the thing that pisses me off the most about tv news articles, is how they go from saying that there is drug problems down on the east side, and somehow they manage to tie it in with raves.

I never got to see that "Ecstacy Rising". I heard that did really well explaining at least the ecstacy situation to some of the people who have made false accusations about the drug itself and the people that use it. I would have liked to make my parrents watch it.
They now know that I did it a bunch this Summer, they never really asked the reasoning behind it or what it does. I'm sure they are disappointed in me, but I'd like for them to be educated about it, and not be caught up by all this crap from McLeans and Global News.

The steriotype gets annoying real fast though......when ever I tell ppl that I rave the next thing they ask me is either do I do E? or do I do drugs?...........it pisses me off......they just assume that everyone that raves are drug atticts..........I always have to tell them that there are acctually alot of ppl who rave sober and go for the music not the drugs

yeah the latest of new segments on bctv on ghb or whatever my mom woke me up at ask me all these questions and to come out and watch the rest of the report. its funny cause i hjave never touched the stuff but she still was trying to ask me so many questions. But i was grumpy so walked off on her and went back to bed ha ha ha

It's the same old "they hand out drugs at the door, right?" kind of thing. I try to do my part by educating people. Talking to them, and showing them the facts. That's all you really can do, when you're competing with major News broadcasts.

I'm almost tempted to do a documentary on the pro's and con's of raves and send it to one of the news companies to air......that way the public can see both sides
