The Wandering Library
I have been cultivating a project in my mind for the past little while, and I think I will be able to begin it this new year.
You see, I have a great love for books and reading of all kinds. I don't think people read enough, and I don't think the general populous is aware of enough good authors, and I don't think that reading is a priority for the underprivileged, even though I think it should be. As such, I will be beginning a non-profit program called "The Wandering Library" I will purchase used books of various genres, of authors I enjoy, and others recommend. In the cover of said books, I will put the creed of the Wandering Library "Take this book. Read it. Pass it on." I will be placing books all around Vancouver at random, and occasionally setting up shop for a day or two during the month and giving out books to people who want them. My hope is to get this city reading and sharing books. I'm looking for someone to design a website or something for me once I register a URL, hopefully with a paypal account or something if people want to donate. Book donations would also be welcome. More information as this project develops.

There are some books that exist with this principle. Celestine Prophecy is one of them.
My buddy gave me a book about memes and memetics. He then pitched it with his own meme: He put his name and phone number in it. I promptly put mine in. He then put the name and phone number of one of our high school friends. I'm done with the book, I should give her a call. Occasionally, I'll buy a book simply for the purpose to have it distributed. Frankly, I'd rather have it passed around and read than sitting on my shelf and not.
