Ah the lovely canadian legal system. Again another law that people have interpreted wrong for years. Yes the legal age of consent for a minor is 14 only if the partner involved is also a minor. If however the person is over the age of 18 a 4 year rule applies to consent. So if your 20 you can sleep with a 16 year old and it's legit however if you are 22 and dating a 17 year old it is technically illegal. Just to give you the interpretation of the law. Besides a cop should have been able to give you this answer pretty easily. How are they surpossed to enforce the law when they don't know it half the time.

the 4 year age rule applies to people under the age of 14, 14 is legal.

There's always petitions aroudn to raise it to 16.
