Salon type hair products

Do ANY of you guy's/gal's USE salon type products? Like stuff found/bought ONLY at Salons? eg. Redken etc?

Just wondering is there ACTUALLY big diff from stuff like that compared to say...Salon Selective, Pantene, LoReal etc stuff you find in supermarkets/drug stores

they are definitely better, especially if you colour your hair a lot

i find a huge difference..

if i use pantene my hair either gets really dried out, or kinda greasyish...and other shampoos my hair is crazy itchy

but redken (my personal fave) is awesome, makes my hair shiny and soft

their definatly better..
i have my brother bitching at me allllllllllll the time not to use non salon products..

id say... if u use conditioner.. get the soy base conditioner.. its sooo good for ur hair.. and it smells good too :)

it jus all really depends.. wut type of hair u have, wut ur needing for ur hair..
so jus goto a hair salon ask a stylist and im sure they would help u w/ ur questions.. :)

I'm still trying to find a good salon hair shampoo. i've found that most of the ones I have tried make my hair really greasy. (redkin) or even though it dosen't look greasy I can still feel it all through my hair. (sabastien) It's like I can't get it out of my hair after.
My fave non salon shampoo is Fructis though. Don't have any complaints about it, and my hair feels nice and healty when I use it. But the salons are always after me to try the more expensive stuff.

i used 'trash' and 'puttee' from the salon i go to, Axis
the quality i find is a lot better than fructis or other stuff you'd find over the counter, but it does cost an arm and a leg

My bro's a hair stylist and he says one of the biggest reasons not to use non-salon products, especially for shampoo, is that store bought shampoo has floor wax as one of the main ingredients

How much is it to get cut/wash/style at Axis? How often do you get a cut? :)

*** Nev posting on Matt's account***

There's def a difference in hair products only available in salons. They are more expensive bc they use higher quality ingredients, and less junk to put on your hair. I only use salon bought products and I have awesome hair. Its healthy, shiney and thick... And if I use other drugstore brands my hair feels dry and after a lot of use my hair is more damaged. My hairdresser can tell if I've been use a product that's not salon quality.

hey, peter! in a word, yes, there is definitely a difference between salon-grade products and those just available in stores. i use Biolage, Sleek Look, and Amplify a lot; all three of those are by Matrix. For guys (although not exclusively - i've used it), American Crew is quite good. let me know if you wanna try any of this stuff out; my mom is a hairdresser and so she gets all this stuff at professional stores where it's not as heavily marked up!

Biolage is super!
I use a lot of Biolage and Bedhead products, I also swear by silk therapy.
Peter, drug store products will generally cause build up on your scalp and the ingredients they use aren't as good as salon products.

this is kelster

there's a big difference, but don't get me wrong, there's a lot of salon bought products that are SHIT. superstore products tend to be filled with cheap fillers that either damages or leaves residue.

as for styling product, drugstore product is shit (unless it's hairspray sometimes). for product it really is 'you get what you pay for' with a few exceptions. most the products i've seen listed in this post are shit, they're the cheaper salon bought products that only dumb people tend to buy only as a step up from drugstore product.

if you want good product get aveda, you can't go wrong cept the prices are ridiculous. the xtreme fudges in the tubs are supposedly really good. i personally like the rusk line of products. there's a cheap place too buy good product in one of the azn malls in richmond, check it out.

As for store bought, I can testify to Fructis! I'm also a realllly big fan of the brilliant brunette product- their shampoo does not overdry (which is what can make your hair fairly oily in the end)

one thing to try, and I can reccomend this because I used to have problems with oily hair is shampooing every other day. For the first while, your hair might be a little funky, or you might notice it is still oily. In the end tho, it does a benefit to your hair bigtime (I still shower 1 or 2 times a day, I just don't always wash my hair)

As for salon products..I looove love love aveda's shampure, good smell and doesn't do a number on your hair.

I also really like wella's matte hairwax. I use it for the front sections of my hair and it doesn't make it look all gunky or greasy, you can't even tell it's there (does a rad trick in taming bangs.) I'm almost out, gotta get more!

oh, and the brilliant brunette straightening balm for hair is also an awesome storebought product. It's the only storebought straightener I've used that isn't heavy or greasy and makes brown/black hair look really really nice

(yes I have straight hair, but I use it to tame flyaways and frizzies and the like.)

Aveda is really nice and one of the few shampoo/hair products that I can use since I'm allergic to most kinds.

I do prefer Bain de Terre kiwi shampoo and lavendar conditioner. No allergy probs and super awesome hair. They are also colour protective, so my hair doesnt fade as fast. In my regime I also use Redken anti-snap, Paul Mitchell Super-skinny serum (only PM product worth buying) and Revlon hair vitamins (forget the name and they're discontinued now).

Get Redken, the deep conditioner if you leave it in for 15 minutes makes your hair unbelievably silky. Because it is made up of aminos and proteins, your hair can only absorb so much of it, so use it every third time you wash. It can actually damage your hair and make it elastic if you use it too often. This goes for all protein enriched products. My sista manages Barbarella salon and she gave me that warning, I didn't follow it :) and now I'm tellin' you, use it twice a week or maybe even once and you will get better results;P
