Just for the record....when one of my children is getting ready to ride his horse and starts making monkey noises....it's policy to attempt to stop that sort of behaviour, it just isn't accepted in society as proper. If a child trys to tell me that he wants something with monkey noises....in order to teach him how to ask properly the trick is to not get mad or tell him he is wrong, but to be patient and wait for him to say the proper word. This is how you make your children progress rather than get stuck in the habit of not pushing their minds into drive. If my customer was mentally ill, it wasn't in any way mean....it was definately a learning experience with nothing but encouragement from my side.

Nev you are a fucking hero with anger issues. If you run into someone degrading a handicapped person you don't start a fight, these people obviously don't know much about mentally challenged people. You have to understand that mentally challenged people are a part of the smallest minority in our society. People that make fun of mentally ill people are mainly children and if you want them to understand you just say to them that it's not nice and the guy you are making fun of has feelings that get hurt just like you and I. Put your fists in your pockets and go to anger managment:)

If you weren't actually making fun of him, then good for you. But from the way you told your story and the way it kept progressing thru the thread it really sounded like you did. And good for you working with handicapped people. You must feel really good about yourself! I know I feel good when I help and empower people. I feel very passionately about it and I don't think that's a bad thing. And my... If you even knew me at all (which you never will bc you run your mouth with your half thought-out opinions far too quickly), you would kno that I am a really calm, chipper and positive person that hardly gets angry. If you read right, I said "revved up"... Not "pissed off" or "angry". revved up as in passionate. And no where in that did I swear. And I don't "start fights" as you put it. Those are usually things that angry people do. I "lay into em" as in quickly putting an end to any demeaning or dehumanising activity, and then offer a explanation and empathetic view of why said behaviour is wrong. If I see something wrong taking place, I will speak up and say something about it.

I am far from having anger management issues, but if it makes you feel better to quickly label someone who disagrees with you then please, go ahead. I will say that your story ignited my thought-wave, but that really I was talking about something bigger than you. You must be pretty insecure if you took that all to heart. Maybe because you feel that you were in the wrong in some way about either how you acted in that situation, or how you retold it to us..? If you really felt that you were completely without fault, then you would not have taken it personally. Hmm...

Nev, I read through all of the posts and just kinda remembered that you brought up this issue of me being discriminatory towards the mentally disabled. From your post I just remembered that you accused me of not having compassion for people with handicaps, when that is so not it. You also say that you "lay" into people when you see a person treating these people unkindly. Maybe this means you just freak out inside, but you are apparently a very calm person:D
