Religion!!!

Has anyone else ever noticed that almost all religious people are narrow minded fools that think like a herd of sheep. Every single person you talk to will believe that there religion is the sole true religion and they have troubles accepting others thoughts or opinions on things unless it comes from a similar religious stand point. If you religion is the right one and they believe there religion is the right one isn't it only sensible to realize that you are both wrong? or accept the fact that you could be wrong. Why do these people feel that they have the right or need to push there religious ambitions and ideals upon you without truly listening to what you have to say. Most devout religious persons dismiss anything you may say due to contradictory content to there beliefs, what if all they believed in was completely wrong, why can't they even tend to the notion that anything touched by mankind isn't flawed, why can't they see that anything guarded humans, touched, believed or used by humans can be abused and tampered with. It's a simple notion, someone writes scripture, another person get's a hold of scripture and dislikes what they see so they modify it to there own liking. Is this not a plausable scenario? If I weren't exposed to religious people from all different facets of life and beliefs maybe I wouldn't see it this way. But when you talk to anyone they alway's tend to be close minded to any other belief being the right one. Why not read about all religions before you make your final leap of faith?

From your friendly agnostic guide :)

yes true, there are very many closed minded religios people...grr...i hate those people. the other day my friend(who is muslim) and i were out for coffee and we ran into this guy i know(who is christian) and they strated talking about religion and he was totally puting her down for her religion, and telling her how bad it was and everything about it, and then he was telling her that she didnt know anything about her religion and how much better christianity was :154: these people are horrible and put a bad name on all religions
but on the other hand there are people who belive in religion, who are not really uptight about it. they belive in whetever they belive in but are not about to ram it down sumones throat and they can still listen and be open minded to other religions and be friends with people of other religions

I disagree.

There's fanatics with every set of beliefs, but that doesn't necessarily represent the majority.

^To be fair though, Conor lived his whole life w/ a realigous fanatic. He's a little traumatized.

I agree Myra, there are crazy fanatics every where, and they're all creepy.

:(

I can ask my Babba to send you one that WOULD have gone to me if you'd like.

Only, it will not just be a card.
It will be an 8-15 (or more) page letter demanding that you embrace god and all his "greatness".

Seriously, you can have it.
I have a collection already.

ps. Dear Conor, if we ever have children your mother can only be w/ the kids when one or both of us is around. NO alone time!

^ Sounds good.

That is a good plan.

Crazy relatives need not be alone with children, planting stupid ideas in their heads.

usually the stupid people are the narrow minded ones. religion seems to find and control this flock of sheep very well

intelligent people these days yet though, are hard to find, these open minded religious individuals do exist though, ie: miss myra

There is nothing cooler than an open minded religous person, I think they are so rad because of how hard they are to find.

I agree with myra... I've dealt with many of folks trying to get me to their religion and I can see why there are so many that are pissed off... but at the same time I've come to find spirituality at the end of a long journey of questioning and someone telling me how narrow and "sheep" minded I am for being a spiritual person seems really no different than a person telling me I'm going to hell for not finding jesus on the end of that road...

I try to think in terms of having an acquired faith based on reasons why I've chosen the paths I've taken rather than blind faith... and I doubt I'm the only one that thinks this too...

what about narrow-minded non-religious people who seem to think that all religion is bad and that religious people can be grouped into one big category?

So true. There are many stereotypes for different groups of people, but that would never ever represent the everyone out there.

Yar! damn those Taoist, Confucianists, Buddhists for being so closed minded.

I think everyone who reads your post will understand what you were trying to say, it's just you could have written it more eloquently.

it's not like trying to understand God within human limitations is like trying to fit all the oceans of the world inside a tea cup.

hehe.
well luckily my parents never forced religion on me but when i went to church briefly as a kid man i hated going there listening to people telling us if we missed church we would end up in hell. but anyways i hear your pain man. there are too many people who've had preachy idiots totally turn em off on religion.

i personally don't believe in organized religion. i respect the many good people out there who try to spread the word out of the pureness of their own good hearts but who said if you didn't goto church you're doomed for hell? there are so many really good people who would deserve to goto "heaven" then some of the so called christians you meet along the way.

regardless, christianity has been the dominant religion thats been spreading around the world through rutheless european imperialism. there was a dominant missionary movement for centuries but from what i've seen many artsy academic kids end up giving up their christian faiths due to the atrocious acts done by the protestants and the roman catholics.

in the end i still try to follow christianity cuz i know it better than other religions. the original teachings of Jesus and the story of his life is indeed very incredible but its really hard to believe since there is absolutly NO evidence thats solid enough to convince anyone for sure its true. but its quite a story..... even though i'm not the best christian around i still believe in the Jesus, God and the devil. i've tried in the past to explain why i support christianity to anti-christians but its a pointless arguement. follow what you feel and if you feel like a certain religion makes alot of sense to you, believe in whatever you want.
