how do you treat your books?

i treat my books like they are temples. i don't like bending any part of them, dog-earing, or laying them face down on a table so their spine breaks (OUCH!).

i will only highlight when i need to for school text books.

My Library is one that General Patton himself would fawn over... from Achtung Panzer to Sun Tzu, I've got all the know-how to raise a Robot Army and overthrow a 3rd World State. :) All my Books are in the best condition.

i have about 350ish books to my name.

i don't like going to the library (it's like the literary version of using a public washroom), so i tend to buy a lot of books.

( I meant my personal Library... I've been to the Public one in Surrey and I sooo agree with that statement. )

i wouldn't touch a book from surrey with a ten-foot pole. i feel bad for library books.

they're like foster children; always moving from home to home...sometimes abusive homes, sometimes being neglected, it's a sad life :(

i'm not much of a reader but i do i ever look after my stuff. once i had the full up-to-date collection of Animorphs and nobody could touch them but me cause they ment alot to me back then but my mom sold them while i was away at summer camp so i sorta gave up then. i spread my love across all the books, so while you guys/ladies are reading those really complex ones, i'm colouring the colouring books and reading up on how the Bearenstien Bears are doing.:128:

I don't ever highlight my books.. because I want to re-sell them after I'm done with them. The used book value goes down a lot if you mark them with pen/highlighter, so I figure I may as well keep it in top shape. Any notes or points I want to emphasize are taken down in pencil. I try to keep them in like-new condition but it's hard especially when they're paperback. The people who've bought books from me have been pretty happy with the price/condition, so I suppose I maintain them not-too-poorly.

I treat my books pretty damn good.

Although, my paperback stash-in-my-purse, daily reads are ones that I treat well when I can.. But won't cry over if they get beat up in my bag considering I carry them around alot. However, I have my purdy coffee table books (often big, expensive and art related) that I treat like they are my children. Those are the ones I want in absolute mint condition and will freak if they get fucked up.

One time I bought two of the same book, one for me and one for the boy. I got it at an amazing price but its sooo gorgeous and inspiring. Anyways, my copy got a tiny scratch on the cover and I actually considered switching it with my boys un-scratched book haha.

i admit dog ear and bend the pages back. they don't look like shit but i hate reading from a barely opened book just to presrve it's condition. i think it adds character:) there are some books like mistressspankme was talking about that need to stay perfect.
