i purposely tried to avoid the exec who is always outside smoking cigars, but my plan was foiled and i think he noticed i don't like smoking outside when he's out there to.

its uncomfortable talking to strangers who are senior to you and also make like 60k+ more than you

Those types of strangers can also make your life at work a lot better! You don't have to talk about the latest stock prices or anything. If you make a point of even just smiling and making a bit of small talk, you run a good chance of eventually developing a smoking buddy.

I love talking to people like that... you can find out so much useful stuff from them. There's a reason they're richer than you. I talk to rich people at work quite a bit. They make good contacts in the future as well. :)
