there are

acrilyc
solar
gel

this is wut i think - and experinced

acrilyc is stronger.. but it discolors ur nails
gel looks nicer but it doesnt last that long
solar is stronger then acrilyc and looks like gel..
i have solar.. and i have small nail cuticles.. so i find these are the best for me.

I *heart* gels, but that's all I've had! I peeled em off a couple months ago and no damage to my nails after 1 yr + of wearing em. They look pretty :)

Acrylic causes gangreen on your nails if left on too long. It does not allow the nail bed to get any oxygen, hence the discoloration.

Gel is more natural and allow the oxygen to reach your nail bed, but giving your nails a break like Nev did is a good idea.

Gel nails are better because they are lighter and more natural looking (if you go to a good nail salon) and they last longer (for me anyways) Acrylic are more cheap, they discolour and they are super heavy.. Also with gel, because they are closer to the nail bed and not thick u can fill in the gap between the nail and cuticle with a little nail polish and it looks good still!

gels are the way to go as far as fake nails go
I used to get my nails done all the time, but thanks for working in the food service industry I have to cope with my brutal bitten nails (for now)

This is how they do it.
Please do NOT cut your real nails down...totally defeats the purpose.

I've had my uv gels for about 2 years now...they're awesome.
Acrylics suck because they don't allow your nail beds to breathe, they discolour (especially in tanning beds) and they actually break FAR easier than gels. The girls at my tanning salon all have acrylics and they are CONSTANTLY breaking them...I have broken ONE gel nail in two years and it was from slamming it in the till at OTW (ouch!).

Maria, PM me and I'll give you the number of my nail tech - she does it out of her home in North Delta, $35 for a fill, $50 for a full set. I get fills every 3-4 weeks depending on the time of year (mine last longer in summer, the dry air in winter weakens my nails so I go every 3 weeks).

Just make sure you SPECIFY UV GEL not acrylic gel - at lots of places if you just ask for "gel" they will give you crap acrylic gel.

Why can't you have them done?
It's not like there's polish on there or anything that could chip off and affect the food.

^ What?
I think that nail polish is but overlays? That's really weird, I see servers, etc. with gels and acrylics all the time...is it a Starbucks thing?

^^ Looks good, I miss my fake nails so much!, but I had acrylic's they were cheap and I liked how they looked. Everyone thought they were my nails so I was happy with them. I had to get them take off because of sports, but I would get them put back on in a heart beat!
