Japanese cell phones vs North America's

Here is the article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6448213/...2033/?GT1=6210

For those too lazy to visit, here are some tidbits of the story copied.

"Take Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo's new 901i series. These wireless hot rods are capable of four-way videoconferencing and high-speed mobile Internet surfing (up to 384 kilobytes per second). The 901is can send e-mail with attachments as large as 500 kilobytes. They can act as TV remote controls and have 3-D screens with up to 262,144 colors. Each model has at least a two-megapixel camera and miniature "3-D sound" speakers. One even has a biometric fingerprint sensor to ensure that no one can use the phone but its owner, and three of the five models come with a nifty function called FeliCa, which enables the 901i to serve as a digital wallet. You download cash into the phone's guts, then simply swipe it over a FeliCa reader at the local mini-mart.

Almost anything else you might place in your wallet -- a gym membership ID, video-store card or tickets to a concert -- can be digitized on a FeliCa-enabled handset. Some apartment buildings in Tokyo are even making their locks compatible. Now that's convergence."

Their phones kick the shit out of ours haha. Err well I guess technically their networks kick the shit out of ours is the reason we don't have these :p

Now put in a GPS locator device and the government can track who you talk to, where you eat, how much money you spend and how far you go from home every day.

SWEET!

Now can I get a barcode on my forehead too?

I think the phones are practicaly free, but it's the phone bills that are ridiculous.

The phones over there are ridiculously awesome, my audiovox looked like such a joke when I went there last year and brought my cell with me.

usually free with a 1yr contract....but if u lose it like i have recently done and have to buy a new one that it's pretty expensive. To buy the phone that i had gotten for free with my contract is 18000yen with a 3000yen discount arghhhh so mad!

I just like the cell phone for itself. I never understood the whole camera and video craze. Blah. It wouldn't be practical for me and I couldn't afford it anyway. I got the boring small Samsung flip from Rogers. It does the job.

Maybe when my contract's over, and there are super cheap cam phone with good quality.
