Stabbing over shoes in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER (BC Newspaper Group) — New Westminster Police said an 18-year-old Prince George resident was stabbed six times in the back early Thursday morning while on his way to his mom's house - and it was all for a pair of shoes.

After a night of drinking, the victim cut through Moody Park when he was attacked from behind by another male, police said. He was punched a couple of times before being stabbed in the back. The attacker demanded the victims' brand new DC skate shoes that had a snakeskin design before taking off.

The victim made his way to 12th Street and Hamilton in his socks before borrowing a stranger's cellphone to call police. The victim was rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital via ambulance with a lacerated liver among other wounds.

I wish my little sister didnt' have to growup in such a slum shady part of the Lower Mainland. Btw, I used to live off Hamilton/12th.. (10th actaully) right across from Moody. News like this makes me fear for my sister safety.

it's sad to see more and more of these violent attacks in the news being closer and closer to home. it's a growing trend it seems. especially the ones involving gang activity or just a huge group ganging up on one or two teens

Shitty deal. Not exactly sure what makes you think this only happens in New West. I grew up in Vancouver and when I was in highschool 9 years ago I had a good 3 friends who had been stabbed and 1 that was shot in the leg in front of the school and those were all unprovoked cases. Look at all the shit that happens at clubs downtown... This crap happens everywhere and it fucking blows.

I don't see where I stated this was ONLY a New West problem, I mearly was shocked at the fact I grew up around that park, on Hamilton, and most likely know the indaviduals involved. Please don't assume my thoughts for me.

Yes, if you growup in a town your thoughts/feelings are direct to where you live. I don't give a fuck about how bad Burnaby or towns within are, thats not me. Where you grewup is prudent to your direct feelings about. What are you standing up for here anyway? Step off the soapbox.

^ wow sounds like I hit a sore spot with you somewhere along the line. A little edgy today are we? I was just digging into why you were glad to move from New West. From the way you stated your thread title, it was because of the violence. What soapbox do you suppose I'm on?

I don't think any piece of clothing is hot enough to rationalize stabbing someone. Tsk tsk. I'm not sure if it's the news just covering more of these things, or if there really is an increase of stabbings and beatings, but it's really freaky. Seems like every week I hear or read about someone getting stabbed. Is it gang-related? Or drug-related? Both?

Pushin forth some equality, city2city violence shit. "My city is as bad as your city" Bull, im takin were I grew up without any reference to the outside. Anyway, you have dragged me away from my original topic of thought.

Bottom line is you got to grow up in New West to understand it's characteristics. Now I am not saying Maple Ridge or East Vancouver doesn’t have there own little quarks. I'm just talking about where I grew up and my feelings against.

maaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnn this is what i dont like about online forums, people who try making problems out of nothing.

Thats awful, New-West is pretty bad in its own sense, like any other city on the face of this planet. eeeerryyyy tho >.>

ture enough. however, I'll be in new west for not 60 minutes before find out who it was and some stupid story attached to it. It hits close to home when you yourself might have been walking through the park that night otherwise. My ma walks through there at night often.

It really does. And it sucks when it's so close to home. I've been at a party where a bunch of people showed up that were uninvited. And punched out a friend of mine over a power bar. A POWER BAR!!!! My friend hit his head on the cement and suffered from internal bleeding.
Then another guy asked why he did it, and about 5 guys started beating him up and ended up almost bottling me in the face trying to hit him.
The sad thing was that a lot of the time they just do it for fun. Not to steal anything. Just to kick the shit out of someone.
It's just getting more and more fucked up out there, and it's really sad.

It makes me wonder if BC has always been this violent or if the news companies are just catching wind of all this.

This reminds me of when a woman came to speak to my high school about her husband, Bob. To make it short, there was a noisy party in the neighbourhood, and people were getting annoyed. Since he knew the teenager who lived in the house, Bob decided to just go over there and check things out. Unfortunately, Bob's attempts to calm the party down was futile. The mob mentality kicked in, and Bob ended up being beaten to death :(

I know I'm missing out certain things. I don't remember the whole story that clearly. That's the gist of it though. It's amazingly sad that things happen.
