Baby shot in Maple Ridge

MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. (CP) -- A 12-month-old girl got caught in the line of fire in a domestic dispute early Wednesday.

The girl was taken to Vancouver Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police and ambulance paramedics were called after a report of a shooting in a home.

Ridge Meadows RCMP Const. Kelly Katalinic said they found the little girl with a gunshot wound.

"It's not believed the baby was the intended victim," she said. "The baby has been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

Police believe the shooting happened during a domestic dispute between the little girl's parents.

Katalinic said the shooting is an isolated incident and not related to drugs or alcohol.

A 32-year-old man is in police custody.

"He is the father of the girl that was injured," Katalinic said.

The parents didn't live together and the man arrested is of no fixed address.

Police did not say where the child was wounded.
