Taking action instead of ranting about news

I have seen tons of posts on fnk since ive been here, with news articles about horrible things that are happening around the world. Awareness is good, but just talking about how sad it is that these things are happening isnt going to make anything better.

So I was thinking, is there anyone who would be intrested in discussing some ideas on how to actually create positive change, rather then posting countless articles on how sorry the state of the world is.

It's funny, after seeing that post about the woman selling her daughter for a car, the same thought crossed my mind. To be honest, though, I don't know that I'm motivated enough. But where to start? Heh. Why not just post ideas here?

I plan on putting my opinions into action in about a year or so....when I move as far away from the masses of human shit as possible.

The way I see it, I can recycle, donate to charities and organizations, eat organic, use biodegradable detergents...but as long as we live in a care free country that has never seen through the barrel of a gun, our sense of community is most likely going to diminish over the years. Face it, the only way that any of you would actually get involved in your communities is if we actually HAD to.
I mean, of course there is the odd EXCELLENT citizen, but don't see THOSE PEOPLE having fun at all night techno dance parties. I could be an execllent citizen too if I wanted to dedicate my whole frigging life to changing things. But, everyone has to think about themselves because that's what the corporate people do, and they run the shit.

The lounge is an open forum discussion on world/local current events. I do my best to keep all relevant news topics here and bump a few out into their more appropriate sections. Still I wonder what are you trying to do? Pry the posters off their chairs and coax them into flipping their views into action. As I do agree with you, this is also the general point of a message board. Personally I don't want to get up and act. I'm more then content with sitting on my ass, focusing on my own life issues, while hovering my mouse around links in the lounge. Don't' try to change me or upset my own karma with flutters of what should be, im working on what is.

1) i agree with myra, in that i find that most activist groups/people have a i'm-better-than-you attitude and are actually looking for ways in which they can fuel their ego instead of save the planet.

3) you are assuming that everyone's lives are what you see on FNK. just because people don't get together with other FNKers and do activism and discuss it on the board, doesn't mean it doesn't happen, right? FNK is just a good way of stimulating discussion on topics.

3) i think an FNK based group would be cool...however, i'm pretty wary of activist groups because in the couple that i've been involved with it tends to just devolve into a group of people that fight all the time and can't reasonably agree on anything. and i think the ego is a big part of this...no one wants to discuss other people's ideas because they believe theirs to be the best already. but i say, if they already have the answer, why do they need the activist group in the first place? bah humbug.
